Why Do People Bump Old Threads?

I have come across a lot of threads that were from 2010 or far beyond been bumped by members who do not care to know that the person has probably become master of the game, got his questions answered or not even actively here anymore.

Is there any point giving answers to issues that have been resolved?

Am also guilty of this but become embarrassed after i stumbled across the date of an old thread i was actively giving answers to.

I think we should look before we leap, always check the date before partaking in a conversation.

There is no point showing a guy the road to McDonald when he has been there times without number.

Also, sometimes people search for threads and don't look at the dates, and make a reply. Just happens, I guess.

cuz they want something free that they missed ..lol They dont bother to go through the thread to see if it was a limited period and/or it is already expired.

Yeah - I've done it. If I'm looking for something I use the search finction 100% of the time ( i never scan down page after pgage - I go straight to search) Also threads pop up in google results all the time In fact clicking on a thread in the forum post list is about the least common way I go to a topic. Might be the same for others who know?

They will bump into older threads which relates there need.
Sure some people will bump into this thread posting their opinion when this gets old.........

I think one of the main reasons is the "similar threads" function underneath each post. Looking at the similar threads for this one, the most recent is from December 2011 and it has one dating back to mid 2010. If someone sees something in there that is interesting, they might click on it and then reply.

Although I'm not sure about the validity of the actual solution.

And those that don't bump threads due to the above usually don't look at the date and think it's an active thread, are advertising something, raising post count, or their just stupid.

So if you have something useful to say, or if you have a quality answer to an old question that hasn't really been answered, keep bumping them threads because they do help in the long run.

Yes OP you are right. I have also seen a lot of users who have a BST thread or are selling something in their signature make threads about some stupid topics all the time. I am not talking of you this time, I have also gone through posting to old threads many times.
