Why do my platform numbers not match backend sales?

Hi,
I’m running campaigns on Google Ads and seeing a big mismatch between reported conversions and actual sales in my backend.

Sometimes Google shows conversions that don’t appear in CRM, and sometimes the opposite.

I’m not talking about small delay differences, it’s a noticeable gap.

How do you usually handle attribution accuracy in real campaigns?

This is normal Google Ads and CRM will never match exactly due to attribution and tracking gaps. Use CRM as source of truth and Google Ads for trends only.

attribution windows are almost always the culprit when i see gaps that big, had a client last year where google was firing purchase events on the thank you page AND a secondary redirect which doubled reported conversions to like 180% of actual crm orders. quick question though, are you using gclid passthrough into your crm or just relying on google's native tracking, because that changes everything about where id start digging.

There can be many reasons for this, like tracking issues, different attribution models, or even cookie issues. I’d recommend double-checking your tracking setup and ensuring your CRM and Google Ads are properly synced. Also, look into using UTM parameters to track more accurately.

usually happens because tracking is not perfect. platforms count clicks and conversions diffrently while your backend shows real sales, so numbers do not match exactly.

This usually happens because ad platform use attribution tracking while backend show real confirmed sales, so number will never match 100%.

This mismatch is normal because Google Ads and CRM track differently. CRM is more accurate for real sales, so use it as the main source and use Google Ads only for optimization trends.

This happens often in my campaigns too. I stopped relying only on Google Ads numbers and started comparing with GA4 + server side tracking. Once I aligned all three, the gap became much clearer and easier to control.

It happens due to different tracking methods platform uses pixel, backend shows real sales. I trust backend more for accuracy.
