Why do Indian people always..

i am not calling anyone sir !! BUT some western guys also call me sir !! :P

When I am talking to freelancers, they call me "SIR". After the deal is signed and we are talking about some extra points, they address me by "Dear". And after it is all done, they will poke calling "Hey Dude. Whatsup?"

I bet people would be addressed Dickhead, asshole and much more :D

Guys, I accept we indians use "sir" much. Its so inappropriate. I dont know our education system is like that. We are supposed to call male teachers as "sir" in school and college.

They are are telling that it shows respect. And in companies too we call senior workers as sir.
 
And for "dear" using it at the start of the message like "Dear Mr.Anderson, " is fine. And looks professional too. But saying like "i will finish the work fast dear" is super weird...
 
Too me I think it's just a show of respect by the Indian people. As an upcoming entity on the world stage they don't want their actions to reflect badly on their country or people.

If more people showed a wee bit of respect to others the world would be a better place. However us in the west have learned to take these terms with a bit of suspicion. In the south as a child you're taught to use SIR and MAMM at a all times when addressing an adult. Same thing in our military.
 
Personally, I don't care what they call me... As long they call me and tell me the job is finished... Then dear is just fine... if it's not, then "taskmaster" slavedriver" or "wagon boss" works... As they hear the crack of the virtual whip coming thru.
 
Most of the times we Indians speak English like the way we spoke our mother tongue. So in Hindi it would be " Aapka Subh naam kya hai?" so we easily think in English it could be "What is your dear name?"

But apart from these petty things we use a lot of words which were used 100 years ago in Britan. Words like felicitation, hence, blah blah blah are no more used anywhere in the world apart from India/ Indian Sub continent.

I consider you lucky that atleast they call you dear and not something completely stupid :D Enjoy your dearness My lord :D

Couldn't agree with you more on this. Using dear everywhere makes it seem funny.

Using the word "Sir" is a very cultural issue in India. We have been brought up calling all our teachers/professors as Sir/Madam only. The same goes for addressing government servants etc. Some of my staff even call me sir, in spite of me trying to push the point to call me by my first name. I know some western guys who got offended when I called them with their first name, they assumed every Indian would call him 'Sir' and I had to tell them to get a life.
