Why do i need proxies for BMD

I usually bookmark for clients as part of my package. Im using BMD for the following purpose

I make one gmail account for a client, create accounts on all bookmarking sites using that one gmail account, and book mark the home page of clients website on those bookmarking sites and then ping the links using ping servers for faster indexing. I repeat the same procedure for client number 2.

So you see, I normally dont bookmark client's website more than once on a particular bookmarking site using the same gmail account.

Plz advise.. why i need proxies in the above process.
Is it because the ping servers might detect that so many pinging requests are coming from my IP address?? or is it B.S.?
