I'm doing OK but most importantly I'm my own boss. My in laws are always acting shady when I tell them what I do. I use to have a good paying 9-5 and they knew that. Now I work with clients and have been building Ecommerce websites on the side.

They always ask what are my websites and what clients I'm working with. WTF! I'm not sharing that shit with them. When I don't tell them they look at me and say that's weird! Then they bring up when are you going to buy a home (I live in a duplex). I drive a 2007 Cherokee which is paid. I feel like because I'm not showing a lavish lifestyle they think I'm lying.

My in laws are judgemental that own nice homes and nice cars. How do you handle this if you have in laws who are judgemental.

Do not try to live to their expectations, give yourself the highest priority. Spend time with people who value your presence.

Family issues are one of the most common ones many of the members of this forum experience. Despite IM having been around for decades now, we're all still pioneers in this industry, and the general public doesn't understand the work we do. It was the same thing with online schools a while back. I had been enrolled in one for a year in high school due to an illness that made it difficult for me to go back to my regular high school. They weren't popular back then, so you can imagine how my family reacted. "Online... School!? Is the boy learning over the MyBook Facespace thing? How's the boy going to socialise? The crazy things people come up with these days".

If you don't want to share your sites or clients with your in-laws, tell them the work you do is confidential and you're required to sign non-disclosure agreements with them. They probably still won't understand, but it's better than just saying "no".
I don't think his wife would approve of that. ;)

Well you don't give them any info, why would they believe you? It's none of their business but if they have any thoughts about you doing something illegal, then I wouldn't blame them to ask.

If you share everything with your wife/gf then you have nothing to worry about.. Most people in general do like secrecy, especially when it has something to do with making money.

i had the exact experience with my families and after years they stoped asking the same questions, i used to ignore them

Give Rich Dad Poor Dad a quick read and you'll realized those sad SOB's are directly moving all their active income into liabilities (the keep costing them more and more), while we entrepreneurs build passive income to assets that keeps making money for us. They (The 95%) hate cuz they can't take the risk and just like their (stable) lifestyle, and they're jelly that we got balls and took the risk and someday it'll pay off. :D

Haha.. thank you! I love my wife and been happily married so out of respect I don't try to get into arguments. My wife understands where I'm coming from. I have a child and it's hard when you have judgemental in laws and you try to avoid parties. I can only imagine if I was really successful and show off new cars and a big home. I wouldn't fall for that if I had the money to get all those things though.

Telling the in-laws you have to sign NDA's is a great idea, definitely do that!

At the end of the day if you are content it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. There are always going to be people who don't understand alternative lifestyles / alternative legal ways of making a living and having a much better lifestyle than a corporate drone.

I guess I could show them the crappy websites I have that are old PBNs. I would never show them the local businesses I work with in our town. My niece found out my youtube channel I market my business and wrote stupid comments trying to be funny... doesn't matter most people don't understand this industry.

You don't know what a 9-5 person or an entrepreneur is doing with their money, there are many entrepreneurs that are putting their money into liabilities and many of the 9-5 putting their money into investments to build passive income.

Like this! That is how I think. I took a huge risk quitting my 9-5 being there for almost 10 years with a good salary. I quit after I saved money. I admit I feel insecure when I'm around the in laws because I'm not showing anything for it. I don't own a home like they do and never went to college like they did. I just know my hard work will pay off.

Shut their mouths by taking action.
I used to use their "naysaying" as fuel, every time I needed some push.

Unless you don't really care, so just ignore them, smile and say "even if I explained to you,
you wouldn't get it, at least that's how you're reacting to me now, you show me that you're not ready".

And of course, you'd never tell them anyway:D

If you let this bother you man... you're going to fail. You are your own boss and it seems like you live frugal. I showed my inlaws my brand that makes 6 figures and they laughed. I didn't tell them how much it earns but they said "your making a living off that" Fuck that I will never show my next brand!

Been there myself many years ago, people failed to understand how I earned money, had 3 or 4 nice holidays a year, new car every 3 years and never went out to work.

Haters will always hate, especially if they're in dead end jobs and earning low wages.
