Why Did You Get Into IM?

I feel like this is a question that has such a wide array of interesting answers. I mean, one thing I've learned here is that there are so many people from different places in the world, and different walks of life. There are a lot of threads on here that ask how, or when, which are viable questions as well, but I think the question "Why?" says a lot more about your character and personality.

Seeing as I'm meeting tons of people on here and kind of taking the first steps myself, I think it's a fair question to give my own answer to as well. It goes back to family for me.

Both my parents served in the military, and it's actually how they met. They got married after about 2 years and didn't wait long to have kids. My mom retired, but my dad continued to serve 20 years.

After that, my mom was a stay-at-home parent as my dad worked. One thing I always kind of think back to is how much time I never got to spend with my dad. He kind of talks about it with me every once in a while, about how much he wished he could've been there more for us. Guess it just kind of left a parental imprint on me.

Now I personally don't have kids, nor am even married/engaged, but I plan to start a family one day. But I want to be there for my family, I don't want to miss all that time with my kids.

Anyways, that's why I'm starting. That's my motivation, and I already know I'm not alone in that family mindset. Like I said, I think it speaks a lot about yourself.

So then, to kind of reiterate, why did you start IM?

I have a young family I want to make a good income and my other half suggested I should try blogging then I found bhw and although I have not made much yet, I am hopeful.

To be my own boss, to work something creative for myself. To work when i want / how long I want.
Also there is no limit how much you can earn, if you compare it to 9-5 jobs monthly fixed salaries.

Initially I wanted to make some pocket money for myself instead of asking parents for that. So started reading forums.
After making some money got addicted to IM world. So stuck in IM now.

Full time warehouse worker, it was okay pay but obviously very physical job

Quit to go to college for computer science, did a few years then went full time into IM

I think it has the best proportions of being interesting, comfortable and high earning potential for me.

I considered air force, but I'm not perfectly healthy and I wouldn't stand orders.
I worked in tourism, good pay but very repetitive with no prospects for long term fulfilling career. Brutal hours, too.

Today I work from everywhere I want, I mostly do modern things and keep in touch with newest tech (web development and computing in general). I don't work much and I have lot of energy for my hobbies.

Freedom.. money to me = freedom.

Like it or not we live in a world where 99% of the good experiences, material goods and comfort for yourself and your family costs money.

Having the funds to enjoy those good things in life is freedom.

It's too bad that's as accurate as it is. Too much of the world runs on money imo, even though I understand the reasons behind it.

It's a climb dude. I'm just now getting into it myself. Should be an interesting beginning to a wonderful adventure. Maybe I'll meet you at the top someday!

To monetize my knowledge and eventually create a stream of passive income. I know, I know. I'm supposed to talk about how much I love it, how passionate I am and how the money doesn't matter but you're a fucking lie.

Because I loathe 9-5s, no matter what it is. Probably because I can't keep routines.

Working from home in your underwear and make more money than your previous job is pretty sweet.

To make money. To achieve financial freedom. I think IM can get me there faster than a dead end job ever could.

Unlimited possibilities
Unlimited holiday
No income limit
Less tax

I think you kind if hit on the topic T0mmy did. Everything costs money, and if you don't have that in excess, then life experiences tend to narrow down. I do think there needs to be a balance though.
Even if you're making tons of money at (insert job here) but you hate yourself for staying there, even if you'll retire early, it might not be worth it. I guess that's kind of why everyone says pick a niche you're passionate about.

IM means freedom for me as well. I loathe waking up so early everyday to take care of "my boss" business.

I'm in the same boat atm, lol. I can't really complain too much about my job, but yeah, still the premise of it I guess.

Obviously to make money.

Because of freedom and this

8 years who when I got into it I only wanted to buy a PS3 because my shit computer couldn't run most games.
Then the amount of money that came afterwards blew my mind. Internet really changed my life
