hello. my blogger blog is sitting on the front page for city name + computer repair with more links to my site then all the competition on the front page put together times 5. i cant seem to outrank the google local 7 pack no matter what. i use unique content, have built 100+ web2.0's, used a wide variety of keyword anchor text to the main site and the 100+ web2.0's and i cant get above the 7 pack even though the top competition is. the 1st spot kijiji page has zero back links to it. any ideas?

im trying to rank above the google places like 3 of my competitors to see if i can actually do it.

i'd like to push the google places map to the second page.

i'd like to have the entire first page to myself if that's possible...

i don't like the idea the competition can leave bad reviews..

    =)

Push google places to 2nd page LOL.Absolutely impossible. It's there for a reason, adsense no has blue markers which look the same as the places ,A,B etc listings. It's a smart idea from google tbh.
I have sites above the places,I'd rather have the listings, people use smartphones and simply call you.
Use a different tel number if it bothers you but for a local business places is a must anyone here will tell you the same.Places is 90% site seo,10% business acknlowledgement via citations google finds.I have citations on the first page google doesn't credit to my places listing!
Having a blogger page as your site is not very professional either, you need to get a real website for the business and rank that and use the blogger site as an info site for your business.
Getting above the places isn't a big deal.My advice, and I do deal with places alot is to get a website and get that ranked, keyword if poss.Get places listing is honestly your best bet.Googles places is far better than Bings,it's well thought out, site seo rewards you.Bings version is random as hell.
Try an article blast about how to change your ram or some easy task like that with your link in the resources box(body if possible).I'm happy to try and help but it'd be kept on this thread so other people benefit.
Lmk know if people are negging other places listings,I'll help you out from there.

Thank you very much cloakndagger for your detailed reply i greatly appreciate it. im not sure if this matters at all but the competition in the 3rd listing of organic above the google seven pack also has the A listing in the first spot of the google 7 pack so essentially has two listings on the first page.

my reasoning behind not using the local search features is the competition here is extremely negative and has no issues leaving horrible comments on review pages. ive already received death threats, ill find ya, we know where you live, comming to get you, etc love for a few educational posts i provided. the competition doesnt like it. also, there was recently a newpaper article in print and online about the competition making accounts on local freebee ads sites about all sorts of stuff for free and directing them to the other competition. the competition was waking up to calls at 5am from people looking for free dishwashers, free cars, free computers, free everything etc and all types of harassment id like to not even deal with.

i was hoping to avoid a first place listing in google places with dozens of negative listings because i essentially provide a free informative computer repair guide that essentially shows users how to skip paying for services and do it themselves. im positive there will be dozens of negative reviews posted for ranking that bad boy...

i'm not exactly looking to compete with the competition directly, more like make them compete against common knowledge any computer tech is aware of. i decided on a google blogger blog cause it was free and essentially just costs me my time and effort. i dont even run adsense or anything profitable on it and honestly it is strictly an educational project for my end users and myself for seo purposes.

any more advice or insight would be great and appreciated!!

Keeping building quality backlinks, and hopefully, then they all get indexed over time, you're naturally move higher.

Also a tip, don't rely solely on Gs rankings - try and explore other avenues for getting traffic too.

Ah,got you.How is your site seo, good interpage linking e.g page about, say, changing hard drive then at bottom a link to your homepage or to another page etc. This can make a big difference.Start linking to other pages other than your main page if poss,I've never used blogger but assume you can have more than one page.
    Have you tried article submission?
Also as already said build quality links, what software do you have access to e.g scrapebox?

I would be happy to give you a scrapbox blast for free,no worries, you need to have good links in place first though for it to work properly.I hate people like your competition who play dirty.Blackhat is not dirty(well not comments, bookmarking etc,it's the only way to get results) it's the only way to get anywhere.

If you want the blast pm me the info,it'll go no further and I'll delete the pm for safety. If poss give me a few pages to blast, makes it more natural.I cannot guarantee it'll make a diffference but it might, how old is the site btw,it's important.

Im with Mosnter on this one, in my niche google places ranks above everyone else but I know it can be pretty tough to beat someone who has had their listing on there for a long time. If you search the forum Im sure you can find a DYS guide.

site is a year old or so. i do interlink between pages on the post but the main articles are sitewide links. i do use sb 1.14 i have about 1500 links or so with a wide variety of anchor links with main keywords + support keywords in there.
i do have about 100 or so web 2.0's i made in the same niche though it might be down to 80 or so..i have a pr of 0. i do have a few quality links but nothing higher then PR4. i did the site up, made web 2.0's, then sb'd em from wp blasts first, then mt, and now i have sb running on be all day all night..

start using your main anchor text in your link building campaign.
Consider the age and overall backlinks of the sites, that is an important factor in ranking this days.
Check your on page seo and html errors.
I strongly advice building a real site because you are building a lot of links to a blogger blog and google doesn`t like that so you might get banned. It happend before.
    Its not that expensive!

Getting on top of google maps whether 7 pack or split is very difficult and requires a lot of links and authority for the domain you are trying to rank. Getting on top of 7 pack is a lot harder than the split, but not impossible.

yes i started out using my main anchor text "city + computer repair" and similar keywords that produce different results like "computer repair + city", "computer repair in city", "city + computer", "computer + city" and other popular related terms i found in google keyword tool and scraped from sb keyword scraper. in general i have about 40 or so keywords that support the main keyword and generally i do already rank on the first page for most but not all of these results... but still below the competition.

in recent times i've opened up the anchor text to more general terms like "computer repair", "computer repair guide", "computer repair support", etc and have been re-writing my onpage text to ensure these keywords are on the page text atleast twice in text. this has helped me rank into the 3rd or so page for these more popular terms i wasnt exactly targeting.

perhaps i need to do some reading on gaining authority. anyone have any to the point advice on authority!?

I've done it before; beat google places listings without one. Not push them to the second page but beat them; yes.

Do blog comments on VERY high PR blogs about computer repair and IT and programming stuff... Try and get like comments 5 listed a day. Do it manually, not scrapebox. Like if you go to a good high PR blog post with lots of spam comment, check the backlinks for all of the ones on there to find new blog posts/comment pages with very high PR.

The you also need to submit to local directories. If you are in Los Angeles, AT-LA.com etc. And also do blog comments on high PR city related blogs. type in "los angeles blogs" or "los angeles magazine" etc.... there's lots of local blogs out there with good PR.

You can beat the 7 pack but youll never push it all to page 2. google is in it to win it. Theyve pushed out yellowpages and other directory sites as they are preparing to monetize local search ;)
Key is to get your WEBSITE optimized and ranked well then tie in to a G places listing. That's pretty much it.
