Why can't everybody uses solar panel.

If there is a conspiracy by the government to keep you addicted to oil and coal,why is there so many tax breaks for alternative energy?

The costs of alternative energy is high,because the demand is low and it is still somewhat new technology.

Solar Panels are the biggets shit ever .Its fake and never will work.First panel companies get dotations from government for solar panels.In europe they stopped giving this kind of dotations and the companies are going bankrupt.The biggest lie on green energy (windpower solarpower ) is that its a steady power source.Even they produce energy companies have to produce the equivalent as backup from traditional ways.So its for sure not grean energy.You should also stop beliving the bullshit about Co2 and Ozon.This has nothing to do with powersupply or oil.

If you are looking for true solutions easy and cheap produce your own gas in garden and produce energery out of it or use the stirling engine (very cheap solution)

You can also produce your own diesel and change it into power .Cost about $800

I think the main reason things like that don't happen is because the profit is not as good and a lot of people don't care about anything but cash.

Now, even though I have been promoting eartn4energy for long time without actually knowing what it is, today, I decided to look into it's salespage, I understood that the problem people are not using solar panel is because it's too expensive and it takes 30 years to get the investment back, I believe it cost appx. $20,000 for installing solar panel, now, I can't f**king understand, if they can build 100+ million Iphone 4s and Ipad 3, when they were not that really important, why the f**k can't they build 500 million solar panels, and as we know, the more the product, the lower the cost it get, I mean, can't we reduce the cost of solar panel from $20,000 down to $500 or something, so that we can get our investment back in 1-2 months, and not only that, the world will be truly green, I mean, we can switch on the AC 24 hours and our parents won't even come and repeat everyday, son, have u switch off the AC ?

You can't "f**king understand" because you 're not really trying to It 's quite simple actually.

• No sane person builds more goods than are required by consumers. Why would anyone stock 500million solar panels when demand is orders of magnitude lower?
• A solar panel installation that costs $20.000 is a tiny wee bit bigger than your iPhone. Don't you think the cost of production for it is bigger too? Apart from that, demand makes cost of production fall. Prices are not somehow decided arbitrarily in seedy offices while smoking cigars and having a Roman inspired orgy. For starters, no sane person will sell you something for less than it costs to build it (except for the State, but it 's neither sane nor person ). What drives the cost of production down is demand. If tomorrow wearing armor is back in fashion, there will be a huge demand for mithril. Now, mithril is expensive as hell, few sources of extraction, few masters of working with it. When demand is high and supply is low, prices go up and people leave their office jobs and go to the mountain to get into the mithril business. More craftsment! More R&D in excavation methods! Modern technology at work to get mass production! Competition amongst producers grows fast, as more and more enter the lucrative field of mithril production. All this drives the cost of production down and you can have a computer with a lovely screen for a few hundred $ instead of tens of thousands that would otherwise cost to.

I just don't understand, in earth4energy, it teaches u how to build ur own solar panel, and it simply not easy for non-engineers to build them, I don't understand why can't someone build a business and sells these solar panels for the interest of public usefulness and not financial gain, why it's not spread out, why non of my neigbours uses it.

Cost - both to obtain and to sustain - and the simple fact that solar power is not as reliable as fossil fuel.

Well I know a friend that just opened up a new place to run his business and he's getting kick backs from the government to use solar power so some people use it and some people dont. I know for sure that its a lot cheaper.

Widespread implementation of solar is also held up because there is no proven record of reliability of the technology. Lets face it a coal fired electrical plant works. You build it and feed it for 30 years or so. The technology leaps are small and easy to adopt.

This is not the case with solar. A major solar installation today may be obsolete in a few years as technology advances. When this happens, the owner of the installation no longer has parts or service. The Industry simply isn't financially viable yet. If it were, those greedy capitalists would have rushed in there made a fortune.

As it is, only the champions of the cause are making any money, and most of it is from governments. Liberals missed out in the oil boom, so they had to make their own global warming boom to get rich on.

We have touch screens, we have electric cars, we have crafts that can navigate across and to the bottom of oceans, we have people living in space, we cook food with radiation, our TVs look like paintings that move the Def is so high, we can see lightyears away in space, we can communicate with anyone in an instant, we can wipe out an entire state with our weapons, we can cure pretty much any biochemical ailment of health, we have planes that register a radar signature of birds, we have computers that can process every single electronic message ever sent, developments in physical health are allowing paraplegics to walk, we can clone and regrow organs, we can generate photosynthesis artificially, we can generate real objects with moving parts using a 3D printer, we can control devices from a remote location, we've developed insane new and cheap building materials, we can control emotions and the atmosphere with correct pulses of vibration, we can gaze into the building blocks of existence itself and create a few of them

We don't have clean/alternative/independent energy because it isn't profitable, not because it isn't currently possible.

Please do not underestimate human ingenuity or greed. We're a much more incredible species than we've demonstrated thus far. We had a whale oil crisis in the 1800s, and that led to widespread usage of electric lamps. They had the technology, but didn't want to use it yet, and it was growing increasingly cheap but they made lots of much money on the last drops of whale oil. Everyone knows the technology Tesla developed and knows of the plot against him because it didn't create enough profit for the electricity providers. Tesla surely isn't the only one who had to go through this ordeal of suppression (eg: banks, rail/road, medicine, food).

Independence of the consumer is not seen as a good thing to those who make money through the renting out of proprietary(monopolistic/oligarchic) technology/goods. Though I'm the last to give any real seriousness to conspiracies, it simply isn't conspiracy for people in power to keep power to themselves, it's natural law.

We have the technology, but just like in BH marketing, you can't give your methods away or else everyone will be able to profit and you'll lose your market share.

The demand for alternative energy is absolutely there, just like the demand for a constitutional democracy is there, but is conveniently ignored.

This isn't new to our current era; nothing is new under the sun. It's not like these problems have just developed. We are growing increasingly aware that it does take demands and action (boycotts for real, political involvement) to make change. Actions do carry risks of the potential loss of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but the current situation of things are already going in that direction.

Take correct action: Invest in solar panels for yourself. Get involved in the industry and if it is interesting to you, put your money where your mouth is and help development. Hire lobbyists. Make a few steps forward yourself first, which is always more difficult because you have to break the inertia yourself, but after that it always becomes easier to spread. A lot of people talk about true alternative energy (not hybrids) but so few actually do anything. This isn't just an issue in the energy field, complacency has infected every aspect of life. Again, this laziness of accepting the status quo and what people who call themselves academics tell us is or isn't possible is not new to these times, but it has to stop at some point or we must stop complaining about the situation of things.

So many people also talk about solar power like it's 100% free for life once you buy the equipment - unfortuntely that's simply not true. Solar panels and the rest of the equipment does wear out over time, so no matter what it is producing, it may not even re-coop it's investment before expensive parts of it have to be replaced.

As Jazzc so well put it above, noone is going to simply buy 1 million units of something simply to drive the price down and hope that will drive the market. In addition, climate makes a HUGE difference in whether solar panels would even be effective in any given region - in some cases, only a few months at a time, and in others, probably not at all.

It's great to be young and idealistic but even when you are, you really need to look closer at the facts.

Slightly off-topic but I remember reading a story about a electrician who built solar panels and wired them into the electricity grid for his entire neighborhood. It cost him like $100 for each panel to make and now every month he produces more energy then he uses so the electricity company pays him something like $6/month.


Also, to those who say solar is not a reliable energy source, you are completely correct. That doesn't mean it can't be used to compliment the current energy plan so we use less fossil fuels. Even if we didn't store the energy solar could power things for 8-10 hours a day and significantly cut down air pollution.

Not only does it have to be in an area that gets a good amount of light,but you also have to be living in an area where the costs of electricity are high enough to really benefit you.

Before I would purchase a solar panel, Ill just switch to more efficient light bulbs and computers,then a car or at least make some modifications to increase its mpg slightly. Alot cheaper then shelling out $25,000+ to just get even in a few years. And with the tax credits ending in a few years it is going to take alot longer.

wrong.Companies need to backup green energy 1:1 as its not a steady power source.So even if you buy green power it doesnt change anything since exectly that some amount of electricity is being wasted as backup for that green electricity

So do it. The rest of use have to earn a living and approach things from a profitability stand point. If you have the time and money to take a loss for the good of the economy, go for it. Make it cheap, Ill buy it.

But the truth is its supply and demand. If I were a power company Id burn Coal too, and then plant a bunch of trees, but still. Point is, as Zig Ziglar used to say "Money isn't everything, but it rates reasonably close to oxygen."

Public utilities are regulated, if they wanted to start using more renewable energy, it would cost much more and they would need to raise the price to the customer. I seen a thing a while back about a company that invented thin flexible solar panels that could be covered on your whole roof. They were black unlike the current blue ones. But they said they were like less than half the cost of traditional solar panels. I have tried to look up the company but I cant find it. But im sure they are out there somewhere.

What's with everyone bringing up old threads?

a solar panel takes:

about 10 years of full use to pay for it's self
about 5 years of full use for it to be "good for the environment" (they take about 5 years worth of energy to create)

After that,
If you get snow, they are useless, they dont work on foggy, or cloudy days.

Wind power, or hydro power is much better.

While it's not possible to make your own panels from scratch (at least not useful ones), you can *assemble* them from parts on ebay and whatnot for around 60c per watt. That being said, you can purchase panels for around a dollar a watt if you do some searching.

The problem comes in with making it work with the power grid, and how to store the energy-- the limiting factor is still the batteries.
