I have a hard time to understand why buyers are (still) using ebay? Everything is available from Amazon from serious vendors for the same price. Also I can ship the goods to any name/address I wish, use different (international/domestic) credit cards that are not even under my name etc.

Paypal on the other does not even let me ship the goods to a different address unless I have at least x transactions, keeps on restricting my account when I log in from outside the US, etc.

Thank you.

The part of the problem, at least for me - is that I have a big problem with amazon raping their affiliates and publishers. Mind you, it's from a few years back - I wanted to publish a book and they offered peanuts to me and to affiliates and kept something like 75% of the proceeds...kind of reminds me of banks?

People expect dirt cheap on Egay or they will go elsehwere. Like a Flee market. Trouble is you attract many "trailer trash types"

Based on my experience, Ebay ends up being about 10% cheaper than Amazon. You have to deal with individual sellers, but that's where feedback comes in. Ebay also has a lot of used goods and for certain items, it doesn't matter whether they are used. I personally prefer Ebay to pretty much anywhere else. They have a good buyer protection policy and as long as you know how to check if a seller is honest, you shouldn't have problems.

For people like me that collect old video games, Ebay is one of the best chances to get some rare gems.
But yeah for brand new items I usually go elsewhere.

I did ebay for the first time last Christmas. I bought a Coach purse as a gift to a teenager. Wow, was it exciting watching and doing the bidding. I can see how people become addicted to it.

I buy from Amazon mostly. It is more like walking into a store at the mall and finding a sale on what you are looking for.

Well, I don't like Paypal either but due to the nature of my business I always tend to have "excess" money in my Paypal account. So Ebay is a good way of spending those funds.

Hm interesting. What you guys see as fun (bidding, checking sellers rating, dealing with individual sellers) is a hassle for me. So I pretty much stopped using ebay and go directly to Amazon (or to whatever seller from google shopping that has the lowest price).
Amazon has been extremely generous in the past and offered an excellent service (reply to emails within hours). On the other side, I'm not even able to contact most ebay sellers.
For used/niche products, ebay is probably still king.

ebay and amazon both have good deals.. some items cheaper on ebay and some items cheaper on amazon... so both are ok for buyers. ebay is just a headache for sellers...

I guess they trained everyone pretty well.

Most people are fond of the buyer protection, i think.
No like ? Get your money back
No get ? Get your money back

Get and like ? Get your money back anyway

Just kidding. Ebay still is the tits when it comes to the average person who wants to buy something. Sure, i rather walk in a store to buy that something special i want but for lots of things ( like packing and shipping material ) i just get in on ebay

Idk, personally I feel ebay has more diversity. I am not from US, so when I shop for products that I need, I always choose ebay because amazon has ridiculosly high amount of shipping fees and the product selection is relatively less. Amazon always seems to be on pricier side for me. Ebay has more personal touch, you can even get second hand items on ebay for a very cheap price.
I shop for cosmetics and clothes on ebay. You can get way more products on ebay than on amazon.
Just my 2 cents :)

where else is there apart from ebay and Amazon to sell?

Its all psychological, people expect ebay to be cheaper as the bidding option makes it more lucrative giving the false impression that they may end up with the deal of their life.

I use Ebay because Amazon is not shipp stuff to my country and because i can win some auctions too.

1.Ebay has a reputation for being cheap.

2. Ebay gives the buyer stupid amounts of protection.

3. Ebay spends stupid amounts of money advertising/driving buyers to their site.

Yeah, i love taht i can use protection saying that i will give him negative rating lol.

I think that ebay lost some of its' clients when DX started selling cheap+free shipping stuff as well as aliexpress where some of its' products are cheaper then ebay...

Part of the reason is eBay is known for its ridiculously cheap prices and consumer protection.
