Why Asking For People To Click The "Thanks" Button Is Dumb

To starlogic, otto14, and xboxman260:

I agree that there is nothing wrong in hitting the thanks button. And I also agree that it is better to hit the thanks button than to have 3 or 4 pages of "Thank You" reply posts.

My point is that when one ASKS (solicits) people to hit the Thanks button, they are not sharing unconditionally. Instead, they are TRADING ("Here's my post. now give me a "Thank You"), which, as I said previously, is NOT in the spirit of sharing on BHW. Also, in essense, they are saying, "I don't care if your Thank You is genuine, I just want to get it - anyway, anyhow."

As far as I am concerned, it shows a lack of maturity and a sense of insecurity in one's self.

Hell . . . If you make a great post, there is no need to ask for people to hit the "Thanks" button. They will . . . Trust me . . . I know that from experience.

Most of the members here at BHW can be trusted that they will show their gratitude without reminding them or guilt-tripping them into doing it. And for those who don't show their gratitude, so be it. At least the individual who posted the info or download post can be satisfied in the fact that thet have contributed, and let it rest at that.

Cheers! - "Wiz"

you have a great point...and there needs to be someway to stop people from doing this..

Essential Clix has already stated that if he sees someone soliciting people to click the "Thanks" button, he will be inclined to remove any thank you's that they got on that thread.

I am just attempting to point-out the logic regarding the issue.

Cheers!

Why do people care about these thanks anyways? Can we redeem them for cash/points or anything? ;)

In the Junior VIP Section you can trade them in for Hookers and Booze. 1 thanks = 1 standard drink. 10 Thanks = 1 hooker, 5 thanks = a tranny hooker. I know it doesn't make any sense to me either.

Wiz, you make an excellent point, but let me point out that I would have to humbly disagree with you when you say people "solicit" or "TRADING ("Here's my post. now give me a "Thank You.")

I have not personally come across a post that said and I quote "Here's my post. now give me a "Thank You." If people are posting comments like this, then by all means in your words "it shows a lack of maturity and a sense of insecurity in one's self.".

The point I am trying to make, if someone posts something genuinely and asks the question "If you like the post or if it you find this beneficial, then hit the "Thanks" button, I do not see anything wrong with that.

Like I said earlier, the "Thanks" button serves as a litmus test to gauge how many people actually read and viewed the post and actually appreciates the post because I have read many postings on this forum that have been beneficial and have either forgotten or did not remember to hit the "Thanks" button.

Remember Wiz, we can not assume that "Most of the members here at BHW can be trusted that they will show their gratitude without reminding them" Again, there is nothing wrong with reminders. Every time we see a rainbow, we know or are reminded what that is.

I have always trusted them . . . and they ALWAYS come through. - I post without feeling the necessity to remind them to thank me . . . Not that I ever would anyway. :)

Ok.. but what I'm doing in the next scenario:

"when I'm so polite to open the door for the lady... and she enters, but she don't say anything to me and she's looks haughty to me."

I'm thinking fucking bitch... the next time I'm not willing to open anny doors for you, I'm gonna slam the door in your face.

You are joking, Yes?
Slam a door in a woman's face?

Maybe the lady is dying, lost her loved one or similar to me, is in constant pain so, has a crabby look.
Maybe she has gas or was late changing her depends.

Perhaps she is unable to speak or is so frail she needs to concentrate to keep from falling. Maybe she DID say thanks but, you missed it?

Ban my ass if you like but, your comment is freakin shameful.
If I was in control I would ban you myself.
I really hope you were joking.

What does 'haughty' mean?
Can you be certain your definition applies to 100% of the people ALL of the time?

Jumping to conclusions based upon facial expressions WITHOUT more data can often lead to errors AND get your butt in trouble.

I mean look at Santa for cripes sake, sucker sneaks around leaving all kinds of cool free stuff and doesn't even stick around for thanks.
Unless there's cookies and milk set out for him. THAT is why he's like 350lbs.

Well said Wiz. :)

Simple rule

'' your not allowed to ask for thanks'' if your caught asking for thanks you'll receive an infraction ;)

Thank you. Great informative post. There is a lot of validating seeking people around.

I suppose it would work... then again, the real world it different than online

I reckon this is because everyone sees everyone else doing it so based on psychological principles of wanting to be "the same" and "accepted" ie. to fit in people just do the same.

A good majority of us have been guilty of this in the past..kind of like a "feel good" thing, but as pointed out, it does nothing for you in the long-term!

Well honestly even I don't know the purpose of this thanks button, I believe it is OK to thank if someone does a great job for you here on BHW but why otherwise for a random thread. Anyways I'm new here and Hardly know the logic ...sorry for being a noob :D
