So I recently built an e-commerce dropshipping website using a common Wordpress theme and the AliDropShip plug-in. Everything works and customers can order, pay, etc.

What I am confused about is I always see people talking about using Woo and Shopify with their online store? People have even asked me "which one" I used for my site, and I say neither. I have never tried either Woo or Shopify. I google them and they don't seem to provide much of anything other than changing the layout of the site? Am I wrong or is there something I am missing?

I am very comfortable with HTML/CSS/JS/Wordpress, but I am totally new to the e-commerce side of things, so maybe this is just a case of me not seeing the value because I could easily change the layout myself using custom code?

I was just wondering why some people talk as if Woo or Shopify are absolutely necessary for a successful dropshipping store?

There are also other options for example Magento or BigCommerce.

Shopify is probably the most user-friendly and easiest to set up. Woocommerce has a big advantage you can easily set it up by downloading the plugin + there are tons of useful plugins to customize/improve your shop.

Why are they necessary? They are not. You could also post pictures of a product and put a button to your Paypal. The big difference is these are CMS and they make the whole process easy with their layouts, etc.

Plugins are needed to synchronize products from the supplier's store to your online store in a few seconds

As far as I know, AliDropShip uses WooCommerce as a base.
