Why are we losing to a competitor?

Semrush metrics are for reference, they are not official or really taken into consideration by Google. So it's not so easy or straightforward as comparing those metric numbers between websites, a higher DA can be easily inflated

Our site shows stronger metrics in SEO tools, yet we’re behind in rankings and traffic. Our Moz Domain Authority (DA) and Semrush Authority Score (AS) are higher than our competitor’s, and we also have more backlinks and referring domains. However, we’re trailing in Organic Traffic and Organic Keywords, and our traffic is only about half of theirs. What could explain this gap, and how should we improve?

Thanks.
That can happen when your competitor’s content or site matches search intent better, even with lower DA. Google priorities relevance, UX, and engagement over pure authority. Focus on improving on-page content, CTR, and user signals to close the gap.

High DA/AS and more backlinks don’t guarantee traffic. Likely causes: your content may target fewer high-volume keywords, lack depth, or miss search intent. Fix it by optimizing content for relevant keywords, improving UX and site speed, and building strategic, high-quality backlinks.
