Why are people still using blog networks?

After the recent updates I thought blog networks were pretty much finished. Unless you have your own private one but thats a different story. I had really good results with them before the updates but I thought now they are pretty much useless, especially the ones that are advertised since the big G knows about them. Is this correct or am I missing something?

Thats what I figured. How can I find one niche specific without creating my own because obviously these are hush hush now since the updates. Or is the only way to create your own?

These so called private blog networks are actually public and easily accessible through sites like buildmyrank but actual discreet private blogs networks were not hit by any updates.

I dont see how any network except your own could be descreet. Like even the ones in the BST got to be easily accessable no?

So if a blog only accepts upto 10 posts per month and blocks all robots.txt to everyone apart from google ip's then I would call that highly discreet.

Yes that would be much better but if they really wanted to couldnt G just buy any service and find out which ones are in the network?
