Why are backlinks on "noindex" pages being counted?

I have been trying to find some backlinks and came across these backlinks that are being counted. We can clearly see that sites like unsplash, behance, and canvas.instructure all are "noindex" websites, so why are these backlinks still counting?

Yes. The point is that these are backlink checkers - it's in their interest to have huge databases as a selling point. But just because these links show up on backlink checking tools does not mean that search engines take any notice of them. Are you seeing noindex'd pages appearing in GSC reports?
 
Yeah, I have also seen the same on Moz.
But search engines will not index those links.

Isn't noindex meant for Google and other search engine crawlers?

It doesn't matter if the tools crawl such links as it would have no impact on your SEO.

These links you mentioned are indexable in the SS are indexable except for canvas I think.

But you should check their page source to see if there's no index tag or not.
 
noindex means that this page wont get into the index (although Google still can decide to include it), but doesn't mean that wont be crawled by Google or the links wont be followed. For example:
<meta name="robots" content="noindex" /> -> this means that the page wont be indexed (probably) but the links are still do-follow.
<meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow" /> -> in this case however the page is both no index and no follow, so such backlinks (maybe) wont be followed by the search engines and the page (probably) wont be indexed.
 
Think of it more as a suggestion than a hard and fast rule. lol. Google does what google wants!! If you really want them out of your house jsut block the bot. But even then? Who knows lol.

This, If you have have website strictly for backlinks and not meant to monitize or for referall traffic it should be a no index, do follow link. This is what google wants. Google does not want garbage backlinks indexed, but they will still give you juice if its do follow.
 
No index refers to that page shouldn't be indexed,
It will be crawled and the links on it followed,

The only ways to actually prevent it from being crawled is blocking bots using robots.txt or/and htaccess (server side)
 
I actually have noindex pages shown in GSC.

I know it shouldn't be there but it's from GSC. so...........
 
google and bing counts all backlinks, noindex, nofollow, etc. but do not give any important to them.
all seo tools also count such backlinks and but consider them in ranking your page/domain.
 
If it is showing in GSC that means it was Index and may be the link was marked "noindex" recently through the website structure changes.

Also tools are just to ensure that your work is getting noticed. Good LUCK OP.
 
The noindex links will bot be indexed in Google. But all the tools and crawlers catch the links. It doesn't matters.
