Why Anchor Text Does Not Matter

in my niche: websites on the top have no single anchor for ranked keyowrd, only brand, really long keywords, and urls. but one thing: links come form websites exactly in this niche, aobut this topic. for me its really hard to get this links that way my innerpage is on spot 5. and i useed main keyword in 7%. but links come mostly 70% from general websites

Thanks Leith. Curious to know what you determine to be "moderate competition". Do you go by a certain number of authority sites on the serps or do you use the metrics of a keywords software.

Also, how many links and social signals did you build that next day.
 
One of the threads on BHW that can be called quality. I usually build mixed anchors/brands/urls to a page before doing exact anchors and it works.
 
Content that is shit can easily be identified by Google, so yes doing a bit of unique content along with branded anchors and few keyword anchors can really kick shit, IMO
 
So that means: create good content and backlink like someone who recommends your site?

Not at all. No where have I ever advocated no link building.

That is a pretty good tool I used to see shared more a while ago.

Having links from sites that rank well for related keywords carries so much weight it makes pretty much all the other metrics irrelevant. They're getting so much juice combined with relevance that anchor text won't matter.

I do have 2 things I would like clarification on. In your original test, you said you sent your target keyword to your Tier 1 link,

1) Did you send only your EMA or did you also send LSI/Generic Anchors like: click here, read more, etc..
2) When you were sending these links to your tier 1 were they from PBNs or from other Web 2.0s?

Google is all about authority and relevance, and when you figure that out SEO gets easy. The strongest link you can have in the eyes of google is from a niche relevant property with exact match anchor that is RANKING for its term. PERIOD! This is why Silo websites kicks ass. Google view internal linking almost as strong as external links, and Penguin does not apply with internal links. (unless you go full ape retard ofcourse) Link sculpting is a beautiful thing.

If you are smart about your onpage you can get to page 1 or 2 with that alone. From there its just a matter of a few authority branded links to give the final push.

I believe branded URLs are the safest and most natural way to go.
 
This thread assumes quite a bit done from partial testing. There is no mention of what percentage of the links use exact match, or what percentage use naked or what percentage of the onpage used exact match and where. As well it was not mentioned as to which google algo you are dealing with? The payday algo for instance is quite a bit different than the general one used for simple terms. You need to know these % numbers, without them you are just shooting in the dark. Google is just a great big adding machine, and you need to feed them the right numbers without going over their limits to avoid penalties
 
I think this thread could have had a more appropriate title. Something like "When Anchor Text Does Not Matter" or "Why Anchor Text Does Not Always Matter". However, with that being said, I do agree with and support your conclusions.

My opinion: high quality anchor links for a keyword will help you rank better for that keyword, especially if the content from one page to the other is contextual/relevant to your targeted keywords.

However, a healthy backlink profile is all about diversity. Branded/generic links are definitely important for increasing your overall authority and works in conjunction with the keyword density/targeting of your website's content.
