This is my Report from: http://www.online-utility.org/webmaster/backlink_domain_analyzer.jsp

I checked my site's PR and it's coming up at 0. How can that be? I would think at least PR1.

It says 335 inlinks. Looks like the same links from the report I showed in my first post.

If you got these backlinks this year then nothing to worry. Last PR update was at the end of 2009 last days of December. Next PR update probably will be after 1-2 months. Till next PR update you will have 0 PR even of you built thousands PR4+ backlinks etc.

Oh okay thanks. Yes, these were all last year and I haven't done much with the site because I didn't have time. I just started getting into SEO again and I thought this site would be good to start with.

Why would the PR report come up as 0 though for the new year? Is it a yearly thing because I have a site that hasn't got backlinks in a long time but it's still PR3.

It has happened to me to.

You have to logout from your gmail account then you will see the real rank for your site.

don't worry much about PR, I have shit sites that have PR of 3.

Focus more on traffic.

Well I'm worried about PR so I can try to rank for certain keyphrases. If my competition is PR8 and I'm PR2, I don't really have a shot right?

Yeah, many of us forget (or just get impatient) believing that the internet is instant. In many ways it is, in other ways it is not. While G may be king of the search hill (and rightly so), they have a regimen that they follow concerning PR. That sometimes works for us and against us. I can remember once seeing my site jump from PR1 to PR3 and I was VERY excited.

On a different occasion, different site, it dropped in PR and I had no idea why. Seems that G had downgraded the PR of many sites, I was simply one of many. Keep at it, and try to find out when the PR updates roll out, it's on BHW somewhere, but don't have it handy.

Depends on your competition that has PR 8.

Does this competitor have all the keywords you want to rank for in the main URL?
Or does it have the keywords on a internal page?

Does it have the keywords in:
Title?
Description?

How many backlinks does this competitor havefor that ranking?

If it has the keywords in the main domain, I suggest you don't waste time competing for the same keywords, instead get some new domains and focus on long-tail keyphrases you can rank for much easily.

So say the main phrase gets 50,000 visitors a month.
You'd have a much better success focusing on 3 long-tail phrases that get 20,000 visitors a month each.

It's human nature, and I've been where youa re at recently as well.
Trying to rank high for some stupid main keyword combination, and all the 20 top results were fanatic about that ranking as well.

But recenttly I changed my strategy to ranking top for less competitive keyphrases... and WOW... Results instantly and much faster WITOHUT FRUSTRATION and ANGER. LOL

It's a logical process, you can't have 1 million in the bank before you have 10K.
So I'm for less amounts but from several/many sources.
Maybe do like 3 less competitive sites a week or month, depends on how competitive they are.

Good luck

Not really one of my websites is PR0 and it outranked PR8 website. It all depends on backlinks you build. On page SEO etc.

I wanted to quote Erik on this part, so people would see this again.
Keep in mind that PR is an overall estimate of the "authority" of the page. That does NOT mean that it's PR8 for any one particular keyword.

Like Erik pointed out, you may be able to easily outrank them for a bunch of slightly longer tail keywords. Always keep what you're trying to accomplish in perspective and ask yourself - "okay, so I want this. WHY do I want this? What will it help me accomplish?" PR is like this stupid pot of gold we all chase.

My highest PR site makes me almost $0 /mo.

page Rank Matters, if your domain name is enriched with keyword.
