Man...This is the question everyone is asking here. Being number one is a quest for everyone.
Do a lot of SEO. Be more up-to-date. And invest some real money with some one more reputable to help you. Browse BST threads for good SEO plans. They will surely help you. Good luck mate :)

Do a decent link building , which means good content on high quality sites.

Exactly. This is such a hard question that can't be answered without knowing some more info about the site.
 
My advise is
First you need need Analyse your keywords...the GET done great on page optimised..! Then find a WHITE HAT SEO Backlink provider...!
He will lookafter your site...!
I am telling this with experience...! I ranked my site on google first page within 2 month SEO workout for my main 3 keywords..! :)
 
it also very depends on website age. I seen in some article that ave indexing time is about 3 months
 
You dont rank on the first page because you have not done anything to rank there. You need good content, and on top of that, you need powerful links.
 
Get done good on page SEO, Write decent articles, get quality backlinks from authority sources and so on. I think you are just spamming to get more posts...
 
And don't forget that you need UNIQUE content, not copied one :) (+ all the SEO stuff others have written already)
 
Put your competitors into Ahrefs. Look at their anchor text distribution, where they're getting links from and how many referring domains/IPs they have. Match what they have and you will see yourself ranking with or above them.
