Why Am I Going Viral on Threads but Not on Instagram Explore?

I’m in a bit of a confusing situation and would really appreciate some insights. For the past month, I’ve been consistently posting high-quality content on Instagram. Here are some details about my account and what I’ve been doing:

• Content: My posts perform extremely well on Threads, often going viral with thousands of likes (e.g., 3,000 to 7,000 likes on individual pictures).
• Instagram Performance: On Instagram, however, my reach from the Explore Page is almost non-existent. My posts usually get between 0-50 views from Explore, which feels very low considering the effort I’m putting in.
• Reels Performance: My Reels only seem to be shown to my followers and rarely, if ever, reach non-followers. Despite this, my Reels have a high engagement rate — my followers consistently like, comment, and interact with them. However, they don’t get recommended or pushed to new audiences, which makes growth difficult.
• Posting Consistency: I’ve been posting consistently for a month now.
• Engagement: My engagement rate is high. My followers are very engaged — they like, comment, and interact with my posts regularly. This suggests that my audience is interested in what I’m creating.
• Hashtag Strategy:I’ve tried different strategies:
  • No hashtags.
  • Small hashtags, large hashtags, and a mix of both.
• Follower Growth: I’ve grown my account to about 600 followers in a month by following around 40-60 targeted users per day. Most of my followers are from my niche, and I’ve had a pretty good follow-back rate (~50%).

Despite all this, my content doesn’t seem to break out of my follower base and reach new audiences on Instagram. It’s frustrating because it feels like my content should be getting more visibility.

Could I Be Semi-Shadowbanned?​

Is it possible that I’m semi-shadowbanned or somehow limited in terms of visibility on Instagram? If so, why am I going viral on Threads but not on Instagram? Could the follow-for-follow strategy be affecting my reach, or is this just part of Instagram’s algorithm taking time to adjust to my account?

Yeah, it's possible. And threads doesn't use same algo as IG. They don't share the same algo since they are 2 diff platforms. If I were you I wouldn't share the niche. Let the account rest 7 days don't do anything on it and sometimes the shadow ban dissapears itself

Seems like you are very new to this insta and thread thing. You have not been shadowed ban, actually making a mistake.

It sounds like your content is good, but Instagram’s algorithm may need more time to build trust in your account. Try shifting away from follow-for-follow and focus more on organic engagement, collaborating, and using hashtags strategically. Over time, if your engagement remains high, Instagram may begin pushing your content to a larger audience.
