Why am I getting so much direct traffic?

Does anyone know why my sites (4 of them) have around 1/3 of traffic coming from direct? My sites are 8 months old so shouldnt have alot of direct traffic

It looks like bot traffic to me as bounce rate is high and session duration is low or 0.

I am using cloudflare and blocking bots so am confused why so much direct traffic.

Should I block this traffic?

it's good, it means your a building a brand, people type the name of your site and don't use keywords to find you.

Sources of direct:
- Untagged emails
- Redirect traffic that uses no utm tagging will show as direct/none as google cannot pick up a referrer there so defaults to direct/none


Layer in secondary dimension, look at geo, device etc... will provide you some more insights of what it could be
 
The top two reasons for direct traffic are HTTPS migrations and redirect deployment. In both cases, a site owner can take steps to resolve. But direct traffic, to some extent, is something we must live with. Not all direct traffic is bad.
 
Did you check webmaster tools to know the nature of the traffic. Most of the times its from xyz bot.
 
Bot traffic can sometimes cause high bounce rates, check the source of the traffic. And prevent unneeded bots.

This would be my guess and there are a couple of social sites which show as direct more often than not.

However, if they all have a bounce rate like that it's likely just a bot. Cloudflare doesn't really do a great job of bot detection but I wouldn't worry about it too much.
 
This is great news and a reason to celebrate. Looks like you've been doing something right!
