Why 8/10 SEO companies doing this?

So I was doing some research on a few local seo companies and I realize 4/5 of them show how good they are by listing what keywords they ranked for company X and Y etc.

1. By listing their client's site publicly, wouldnt that allow more 'experienced' marketers to see what they did/are doing to rank those keywords? At the same time, I am thinking their clients probably wouldnt be too happy about this.

2. Some brags about how they rank #1 out of 160,000,000 competition. In fact, their key term "ecofriendly cleaning services cityname" only has a 12 EXACT search according to google keyword tool. How is this anything to brag about?

3. What I find even more interesting is that some companies list their pricing out; 4 keywords @ $399 (or whatever price), with order now button. So without even asking what keywords I want to rank, they immediate ask for my payment. I wonder what clients are asking for 'super competitive' keywords, what they gonna do in that case?

Please advise.

They're bullshit artists plain and simple and give SEO a bad name when those clients realize they threw money in the pisser. I've had countless guys like that pitching me bullshit not just in SEO but in other products and services. All its done is make me realize that you need to have a competent understanding of the service yourself in order to outsource work effectively.

True..but the problem has spread to here as well.
My "favourite" one`s goes like this,

I just picked up a client for seo, whats keyword research/how do I rank, do I need backlinks blah blah blah

The SEO companies mentioned are just scam artists, the seo "experts" here asking idiotic questions are just greedy halfwits.

1: The client is consulted before being exposed. If a person is smart he will learn to rank anyway, and obviously we dont expose keywords with unique link building strategies.

2,3: i dont expose prices,i use a quote form, and after calling the company i send the price plans.

they are not protecting their clients at all, exposing somebody's vital info like that

Yeah it's got to be just B.S. and sadly enough they probably do get business from that lousy sales pitch too.

I couldn't imagine paying $400 for a service that makes claims like that.

I can't imagine paying $400 for ANY SEO work though.

Good post mate ;)

That is so true. I cringe everytime I see one of those "I just picked up a client, what do you recommend for backlinking services" or "I just picked up a client, should I get senuke/sb/nohands?"

That is disgusting, put yourself in your clients shoes. Here is a business that paid you an amount of money to perform a task that you don't know jack shit about.

Its like going to a barber to get your haircut. Only when you sit on the chair, the barber picks up his cell phone and says "do you mind if I go hands free on the phone here with my hair school instructor? He's gonna walk me thru this haircut"

How would you feel if you were sitting in that chair?

But truly speaking we don't do that, we send keyword recommendations first to the client for approval. Once approved we go for on-site implementation and starts off page stuff. this process seems to be a good practice to keep and we have 80% happy clients.

Actually you'll notice 8 out 10 clients know about keywords.

I find #2 most interesting myself.

Bragging on their site about how they ranked their clients first page on a '5-words keyword' (Best Repair Technician in Cityname). In fact, as mentioned, that term only get searched less than 10 times per month.

I wonder how they feel presenting their abilities to others like that, especially to people in the same industry. They are just making a joke on themselves

lol, $399 for 4KWs, whats their site? have credit cards, payday loans, lose weight, cheap flights for them

One answer, to get lot of clients

The same thing goes for the cheap-ass flat-rate SEO firms. I lost a prospect because he only looked at cost, and had competitive keywords, and there's a firm nearby that offers around $120 flat for local SEO when there is no way I would offer that price.

the sad part is, like the op said, most of the sites that rank in google for "city name SEO"(at least in cities around me) do list their clients. They dont even have to list the keywords they are going after for their clients. All I needed was 1 of their clients, and I pretty much found their whole network, and probably a majority of their other clients because of their sloppy footprints. Its amazing...

LOL! This guy actually walks prospective clients through a case study of one of his other clients. Exposing their keywords and well as bringing them up on MS! Unreal.

That dude's website is one of the worst I've seen in a long time. I also liked how he said "if it's red then I tend to stay away". LOL, if it's for a client you can't choose to not go after that keyword.

I'd say that you shouldn't worry about the scammers because a good businessperson will know when they're being scammed and when they are dealing with a quality service.

That site looks so awful why would anyone trust their SEO efforts to a company that can't even get a clean looking web site put together? I respect the dude wants to make money online, but he's gotta clean it up a bit.

Both my wife and I laughed out loud when we saw this site. We had to check it out as we used to live in San Diego. It is so horrible i could not have automated it on weebly with a blind outsourcer. I have some crappy sites, but even the most unfinished has to be 10 times better than that on the eyes. At least he got the title centered. LOL.

I am a newbie at best, but I guess I know where to go for some network planning.
Melbourne Australia has its own give it all away showoff on Youtube. search "client case study" seo on da tube. I guess most think that if they focus on local seo, then the rest of us aren't looking...
