Who's good at reverse engineering backlinks/doing digging on a website?

Hello fellow BHWers,

I've been doing some research into competitors and I came across this. This domain (which ranks extremely well for LOADS of keywords) redirects to another domain, which has a handful of backlinks and way less traffic. Of course, Ahrefs could be wrong or inaccurate, but I found this very interesting.

Well, just that this site has a lot of traffic and is ranking for many keywords, despite, according to Ahrefs, having no links. I was wondering whether there was any way to delve a little deeper.

Did you check it at other tools? Majestic, Moz etc? Also from the look of the screenshot it seems that this website get the traffic recently - maybe Ahrefs still did not index all of the links? Also try to google the "URL" if they have naked links you will find them this way, even if they are hidden from the 3rd party tools bots.

The main site might be blocking bots/crawlers, but from the sound of it the 301 redirect is providing some of the power/juice.
The 301 redirect site might have been the previous domain or an expired domain.
As @Iknowsomethings suggested try some other tools and try to identify when the traffic and ranking increased, there could be other 301's too.

Definitely looks like the site blocks ahrefs. Try using a less famous tool to do some digging.

You can manually and with the help of a plugin block most crawlers. Try using tools that are not as popular and you may find out that they forget to block them.
