Are you being serious your sending out a warning. 99% of people that use this forum would never make such an obvious mistake, you should think about another career thats for sure

I think it is good if you can change the email that you did.
or
Make some alibi, You can tell your client that is maybe your competitors since you outranked them, or maybe you can said that is the part of ranking in the top many people will call that no since they are visiting your site and that is not your fault.

Some advice, based on what I have read, your client wants better good SERP no?

Then blast on none related sites.... so the people that complain aint from the same market niche.

But obviously it could be he wants the comment on similar niche to get some traffic from the comments?!
