LOL i'm joking, but someone stole over 2 million worth of bitcoins from silkroad.
Its huge amount of money. Apparently it pays off to be a hacker :)

silkroad hasn't been around for awhile....

Looking at the nature of silkroad, I doubt it. Seems to me silkroad 2.0 is just a huge scam in an attempt to steal money from the black market. They just had the opportunity to blame it to "hackers" when a supposed "exploit" was revealed by Mt.Gox.

Silkroad is just pretty scam, btw!

I've an idea.

Start a BTC trading site,
Run it till you get a load of BTC in your system,
Transfer all of the coins to another of your account,
Publish the press that your site have been hacked,
Blame it all on hackers,

$$$PROFIT$$$

The conspiracy theorist in me is convinced that this is what's been happening

Pretty crazy that the little bit of time Silkroad 2.0 has been going they managed to amass that many Bitcoins. I'm clearly in the wrong business, lol.

and the funny thing is no one can do anything if they decide to just run with your money

same if you get robbed, if someone steals your credit card the credit card company will fight for your money "really it's their money", if you get mugged on the streets you file a police report and you probably have a 1% chance of finding the person let alone getting your money back.

Except with bitcoin, every transaction is traceable through the blockchain. I wouldn't be surprised if people are building tools to de-anonyminize (SP?) bitcoin users. There are always weak points in the chain, such as whenever a transaction is made with the btc wallets of popular exchanges, they tend to hold user details so I'm sure it's not totally out of the reach of the FBI/NSA.

The Blockchain is very transparent, with the ability for anyone to view transactions and where they are going, as far as I understand. I really don't understand how millions of dollars in Bitcoin just disappear. Surely they are able to track that large a wallet and where it gets split up and washed out at. The more visible Bitcoin becomes in the mainstream the more governments will work to strip it's anonymity. Governments around the world are already scrambling to ban or regulate it, which is only going to push more taxpayer dollars towards finding means of traceability to hunt down tax evaders. Which is really all the governments care about.
