Who makes a living doing SEO?

Hello gents.

I was curious to ask if somebody does SEO independently or as an employee for businesses and or agencies.

This week I spent time to analyze some guys on SeoClerks and I was wondering how can they survive by charging $20 or even 100$ per job.
E.g: even an average of 3 jobs per week at 100$ means 300 * 52 weeks = 15,600$ gross.

I live in Europe and 30k$ after taxes are pretty much 15k$ net. Which means being below the level of poverty.

Just curious to hear from you.

How do you know that's the only work they're doing?

I make living of doing SEO. I'm having a net around $25.000-$35.000 at year.

I do not know of only SEO but many make a living of SEO + website design. People who know SEO normally also tend to know website design and run their own network of sites. So, the earnings get multiplied. It is also wrong to assume that everybody on fiverr or seoclerks make $15K per year or more or less. Some might make a lot more while some might make a lot lesser. And I doubt anybody only do gigs at one of these websites for a living. When you are into IM and SEO, you tend to become versatile in many aspects of online businesses.

places like seoclerks and fiverr are good for cheap jobs with lower quality but the person who does those probably wont reply on those sales platforms only. one SEO contract can easily come to $10,000 a month and thats just for one client. its like asking about watch makers and only looking at people who sell cheap plastic watches on ebay. thats not the entire business. some people offer small SEO services but sell a lot of them and other people have a handful of clients and work on their entire SEO campaigns for months on end and they charge a lot more. I know many people who can make a living on SEO alone but they dont because they also supplement their income with other stuff like ORM. if someone does SEO then its more than likely that leads them into other businesses so in reality does anyone make a living solely on SEO? probably not but thats only because they do SEO and more.

$400 a month is above average in many third world countries.. So chill....

Most of the guys on seo clerks are from asian countries which are not costly to live in. I can say that because I live in india and earning $1200 a month is beyter than having a corporate which pays just $500-700.

In fact, I said that in Europe: UK, France, Italy 21k is the minimum as single man for not being considered in state of poverty. I know that 400$ in India can be good money.

As self employed in Italy you are taxed (pension included....but you must pay is not an option to avoid it) half of your total earning per year.

1. As Cazual said - where do you live to be taxed at 50% on a $30K income?

2. They don't work out thresholds for things like the poverty line or minimum wage on net income - they base it on gross income

3. You make too many assumptions:

i. How do you know they only get 3 jobs per week?
ii. How do you know they only charge $20 per job
iii. How do you know their only source of work is SeoClerks?

There are plenty of people in the SEO game who have a substantial income.

Minimum tax: 25%
Maximum tax: 61%
Then add VAT of 25%
180% taxation on cars

I answered to that question above. In Italy as self employed the taxation reaches up to 50%.

I love every country in the world and respect everyone. But if any country charges 50% tax from people living below the poverty line as you say, then that country needs to seriously work on its taxation structure. It does not make sense at all. A person living below the poverty line should not need to pay taxes at all IMHO. That is what any sort of logic says.

The cool thing would be to work only online. If I could rely on a good income, maybe from different sources, I would move in Thailand or Singapore.

Thailand is a good bet. But Hong Kong and Singapore are also very expensive from what I hear. So, it would not make sense to move there. Even if Thailand, moving into some remote location near beaches with good internet connectivity makes sense. Some guys from Europe and North America do so and there are many travel related webmasters who have relocated there.

But perhaps it would be better to work in your own country. LOL. But I still fail to understand why a person below poverty line would be charged 50% tax? Italy must have an absurd taxation system if true. I doubt any other country would even tax their BPL population.
