Being an Indian, I don't agree with OP. Cricket is like "local" sport and tennis is more like "global" sport. Although I don't have any statistics, but I feel Sharapova is more famous than Sachin considering the global appeal of tennis.

If somebody doesn't know about something, then making it headlines or breaking news is not a good thing. All in all, Indian Media can only serve bullshit to their audience.
 
I don't know who is Sachin Tendulkar. But if you're man, you should know who is Maria Sharapova. :)
 
Cant blame her, she aint exposed to the cricket culture lol. Russians may not read or watch English news/papers perhaps!
 
Won Wimbledon at 17, the youngest player ever to if I am not mistaken. 6 foot 2,Beautiful, intelligent and speaks fluent English without an accent. She also learnt French in 3 months and speaks it fluently when she was off for a few months with a shoulder injury. Makes more money in her sleep than most of us here make in a year. If I also recall correctly she was taken to tennis academy in florida and was coached for free (or a percentage of future earnings more probably) because of the potential seen at a young age...Awesome role model....

They exactly do so... serve BS to our people to raise their fcking TRP, whatever that is. After that is done, most of our people feel that calamity has struck and doomsday has come down on them, and then such is the hyper-senseless response...

News channels are fucked up in India, who gives a shit if Sharapova doesn't know Tendulkar and why's that such a big news? If this was something that happened during some serious terror issues or something, no channel would have ever paid attention to it.
