I'm going to be doing some direct mail marketing but instead of mailing it I will be dropping my letters in to businesses.

Each letter is specific to the business I will be sending it too.

I'm going to target businesses which have got money to spend on SEO. But I'm struggling to brain storm who to target.
I've started putting together some letters for accountants and solicitors but who else would be good to target?

Has anyone had specific success with a certain business sector?

    Thanks in advance

You are providing SEO services right ?

If you offer website creation and optimization i think you can do almost every medium/large company that do or do not have a website and are willing to spend some cash, best i think is explaining that it would be very profitable for them and how your optimization and work can bring them more targeted visitors and customers.

Most of the companies nowadays are not aware of the power of SEO, and how can that benefits them in the long term. Making them to understand this (include information about this in the letters) i think is your best chance of success.

Almost any industry is a good target for SEO services, however usually the business owners don't know how SEO can have a positive impact in their business.

So, to make it easier on yourself do a little research first:

1- Pick 10-15 business categories. Use the yellow pages or YP.com to find them.

2- Find the largest ( or a good size city) metropolitan area closest to you.

3- Use Bing and Google and then search for cityname+business type.

4- Look for the paid ads in the result pages. Go to the next page and the next and next.........Now you have two options:

A- Contact the specific business advertising in the paid ads and offer them your services. Or....

B- Does this particular type of businesses advertise a lot? Do they have many ads all over the place? No, well that PROBABLY means that they don't need/like/know/understand Internet marketing and they'll say no thank you to your offer.
On the other hand if this particular industry has ads all over that PROBABLY means that they use and have a need for Internet marketing services like SEO. This type of business will be more open to know more about your services.

5- Make a list of at least 5 industries. Now you have some data that you can use to prospect for potential clients.

BTW, you can do the same on YP.com or any other business directory, find the industries that advertise the most. They have the budget and they know they have to advertise to bring in new customers.

Hopefully that'll give you some ideas.
