Who holds the premium domain ?

I searched a domain on namecheap and its shows as a premium domain.
Who is holding the domain at the moment, an individual or namecheap ?

You'll have to run a WHOIS check to determine this.

The way Namecheap search is built is apart from checking for availability with ICANN, it can also query its partners to see if anyone has it for sale with them.

Namecheap is a premium registrar and it partners with a lot of these domaining companies. I believe they must pay a listing fee or a set commission to Namecheap for every domain sold through their platform.

To give you an example, the domain - content.ai - shows up as a Premium domain on Namecheap.



If run a Whois on that domain at domaintools.com, it tells me it is available for sale at "one of their partners".



On clicking the "Visit our partner" button, I am taken to an Afternic page with a Godaddy branding - https://checkout.afternic.com/BDAddToCartFromProdId.do?&prodId=3408057&traffic_id=3805




So basically, either partner is an owner.

Most probably an individual. I have some domains on nc that I am selling, as well. You can sell too. Just that it has to be registered on nc, that’s all.

He can’t get sig views on namecheap’s customer support tab.

Domains that are blocked by registrars or a big domaining company are listed as premium domains. That means they are already registered to someone and you'll have to pay a premium to buy it off them.
