Other than pure speculation what else will keep Bitcoin afloat? I mean other than speculation does anybody use bticoins for actual transactions? If not this is a bubble and a big fail for an interesting concept and the days ahead should be challenging for investors.
There are plenty of people using Bitcoin as a currency rather than just a stock. The article I link in my post above(http://bitcoinmagazine.com/bitpay-processes-5-million-in-march-eclipses-silk-road/) is a good example of this. There is also http://www.bitcoinstore.com/ that has been doing decent enough to allow them to renew their contract with their wholesaler. They also beat Amazon prices in most cases.
It's only been recently that it's been coming to the mainstream, while there are lots of places to spend your Bitcoins, give it a little more time to expand. With the FinCEN news, and it clearing up the legal issues with Bitcoin places that were hesitant in the past will be moving forward with accepting Bitcoin.
For anyone that's unaware, here is a small list of places that will accept your Bitcoins:
http://bitcoinstore.com/ - Amazon of the Bitcoin world. In most cases, cheaper. Their search sucks.
http://bitmit.com/ - Think eBay, but with Bitcoins. List your items free.
http://namecheap.com/ - Buy domains, web hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, SSL certs, etc.
https://bitspend.net/ - Buy anything you want with Bitcoin. Fees are reasonable, and cheap.
http://coinabul.com/ - Buy gold and silver for Bitcoin.
Of course there are plenty of other places that will accept your Bitcoins, with some google-fu you can find them with ease. There are plenty of markets that aren't being catered to, even some that could use some friendly competition. I would encourage any of you to work toward filling these markets.
Current Value of BTC ($260.12) made me think that I should include it as a payment receiving option for all my IM services and it should be. BTC is charging a lot less as compared to Paypal for each transaction that occurs in my account.
That's great that you're considering Bitcoin as a choice of payment. Keep in mind that if you use one of the payment processors, they'll be taking a bit more off the top than the standard network fees. The two biggest names being http://coinbase.com/ and http://bitpay.com/. If you would rather keep the middle man out, check out Bitcoin SCI(http://bitfreak.info/?page=tools&t=bitsci). It allows you to accept Bitcoin payments without running a full fledged node, and without having the middle man take their cut. It's written in PHP, and fairly easy to get setup.
