Yes and there is risk with all link building. People think if I build whitehat link there will be no risk.

Grey hat might give quick results, but it's risky long term. I prefer clean, relevant links. Growth is slower, but rankings feel more stable over time.

In my opinion quality is winning more often than pure quantity. A few strong , relevant white hat links from trusted sites usually last longer and helps rankings stay stable. Grey hat can still give faster movement on some projects , especially in competitive niches, but it also brings risk now because google is getting better at detecting unnatural patterns .

For me relevance has made a bigger difference than the number of links. A few mentions from websites closely related to the niche have usually had a stronger impact than collecting lots of links from unrelated sources. I have been putting more effort into finding good placements instead of increasing volume.
