White Hat SEO tools

I read alot about black hat SEO tools, but are there any good White Hat SEO tools thta are worth checking out to improve SERPs and help get some backlinks ?

I mostly use wordpress blogs

Market Samurai is surely right up there amongst the 'must have' tools? possibly is THE tool i wouldnt want to be without....

black hat SEO is better..

All SEO is blackhat. Any method of artificially influencing the outcome of the algorithm is what Google is trying to prevent. There is no clear line between safe practices and what will get you in trouble. If anything, it is a thick blurry gray line and we all have to decide for ourselves what is worth the risk and what isn't.

Google's SEO advice is still... don't worry about SEO. Just make good content people want. So in that context, word processors and image editors and video editors and audio editors, etc... would be the only kinds of white hat tools.

To a certain extent if you are in this forum asking this question then you already know this to be true, but perhaps haven't fully come to terms with it yet?

Is article submission, profile building, commenting, guest blogging, article writing, press releases, directory submission, web 2.0 like squidoo & hubpages, digg, twitter, the list goes on and on. Is all that black hat?

Yes, if the reason you do them is to improve your rankings. Will they get you in trouble? Probably not. Just don't mistake Google's inability to punish it as "approval". If google can invent a way to smack down sites using those channels for mostly SEO gain they will. It's exactly the stuff that gives Matt Cutts his daily boner.

If you want to play it safe then pick a successful company you like and do what they do. I think Overstock is a good example. At times i've seen them go pretty far into the gray too, but they have a lot to lose so they have some safe limits too. There is no right or wrong. Just risk vs. reward and whatever happens, happens.

I have not seen an SEO software package that isn't a violation or 50 of Google's terms of service. We are just kind of lucky that Google hasn't put the smack down on these software vendors. I'm no saint either. Some of my stuff goes into the dark gray. But I don't lie to myself or others about risk. I hate it when SEO companies tell people what is "OK with google" as if they know what google will think of their practices. They just ride on the notion that fallout is unlikely... but that is their risk vs reward scenario to wager with.

There are several "industry" standard whitehat tools.

As ipopbb mentions... they all are technically blackhat.


Compete is great for market research and traffic analysis

SEOmoz pro is great for their private questions and huge set of tools.

Excellent for have a huge team of people playing by "white hat" rules
all sharing their knowledge of what's working -- right now --

Market Samurai -- (already mentioned but really is great for analysis)

And actually...

Google's own tools.

It's take me a while, but it's worth it to really go through all their free training.

Adwords can be such a beast, but it's worth learning it from Google perspective.

Like how and why they consider certain words to be semantic.

What makes an authority site to Google.

What kinds of things is the Google Spam team actually mentioning on the google blogs?

Another great one is to check out the Google Forums of complaints.

It's great to see where spam and blackhat is happening and to see where there might be an opportunity in your niche / market

@IPOPBB lol yaa best suggestion... People need to understand this... Every SEO we do mostly we breaking one or another rule of Google but can't go with their prescribed root... So as you suggested define your limit...
