    Keywords:

    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
    http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/

    Rank Check:

    http://tools.seobook.com/firefox/rank-checker/
    http://www.google.com/webmasters/

    Backlinks:

    http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com
    http://www.backlinkwatch.com/

That's a good foundation to start with and the best part is it's free. Enjoy.

Also, note that http://www.google.com/webmasters/ with a verified site will show you a list of things you rank for and what pages you rank on. It will also show you backlinks (from Google's perspective no less). Even has a site wide examination of your keywords and shows you your overall site keyword map. Always use white hat legitimate sites when it comes to Google's tools though.

FaganFinder.com is a nice compilation of tools.

SEObook.com -- sign up with email and then you can access some great plug ins and I think still get a copy of their free seo book.

Internet Business Promoter and WebCEO are a bit high-end but they do get the job done.
