I am working on improving the technical SEO of my website, but there are so many things to focus on that it’s difficult to know what should be the priority.
I have seen recommendations about site speed, indexing issues, Core Web Vitals, internal structure, and other technical improvements.
I would like to know from your experience which technical SEO changes made the biggest impact on your website’s rankings or overall performance?

Improving site speed and fixing internal linking had the biggest impact for me. once google could crawl the site better and users got a faster experience the rankings started improving much faster.
 
From my experience, the biggest improvements usually come from resolving crawl and indexing problems first, since search engines need to access and index your pages before they can rank them. Once that's taken care of, optimizing Core Web Vitals, improving page speed, building a stronger internal linking structure, and removing duplicate or low value content can make a noticeable difference. A solid technical SEO foundation helps search engines crawl your site more efficiently and better understand your content.
 
The best technical SEO fix for me was making sure every important page was indexable and linked properly. Without good indexing, even the best content cannot perform well in search.
 
For me, improving internal linking had the biggest impact. Once I connected related pages properly and made it easier for search engines to discover important content, I noticed better crawling and ranking improvements without publishing a lot of new content.
 
For me, cleaning up duplicate and thin pages made one of the biggest differences. Site speed is the first you should fix. Internal linking and updating your content are the second and third.

Surprisingly, cleaning up unnecessary pages and fixing duplicate content gave me better results than chasing Core Web Vitals. Sometimes simple technical fixes have the biggest impact.
 
I would prioritize indexing and crawl issues first. If search engines can't properly crawl and index your pages, nothing else matters. After that, focus on internal linking and site speed.
 
best fix you can do now is to make sure to put your content in plain html, cause AI tools like gpt read your page raw html only, their crawlers do not run javascript at all :)

It wasn't a sexy change, and it didn't produce any immediate spikes, but it was the foundation for everything else, before that, my content was a mess of unrelated articles, and google had no idea what my site was actually about.

The fix was treating my site like a library, not a random pile of papers, I created a few main pillar pages that covered broad topics in depth, and then I organized all my other articles so they linked back to those main pages, this internal linking network helped distribute link juice and told google which pages were the most important, it also made my site easier to crawl, especially for new pages, because they got discovered faster through the link structure.

The impact wasn't overnight, but over a few months I saw a clear upward trend in rankings for my pillar pages and the articles linked to them, my site started ranking for more long tail keywords, and new posts performed better from the start because they inherited authority from the internal links, it took a weekend of work and a lot of spreadsheets, but it was the one fix that made all my other SEO efforts actually work instead of just spinning wheels.

Usualy, the improvement is due to increased crawlability and site architecture. for myself, I have achieved more positive result from fixing internal linking nd removing poor performing page rather than from working on Core Web Vital.

the most significant boost was not due to optimization of technical indicattors but bcz of improvements in the architecture of the website. the site became more easily crawled by fixing all the broken links, optimizing the internal linking nd deleting unecessary pages. it is essential to pay attention to core web vitals but i observed the most significant progress after improving webssite architecture.
 
Personally what improved my rankings was using the perfect Schema. it was a long time ago but i used to ignore it while building websites.

For me, fixing crawl and indexing issues had the biggest impact. Once Google could efficiently discover and index the right pages, rankings improved much faster than from speed tweaks alone.

I improved technical errors like broken links and redirect problems this helped me more than small speed changes.
 
Fixing indexing & crawl issues like no-index tags, bad canonicals & internal linking usually has the biggest impact far more than speed tweaks alone
 
Fixing crawl/indexation issues (especially removing noindex blocks and improving internal linking) had the biggest impact, leading to the fastest organic traffic gains.

No unnecessary no index tags
Canonical tags implemented correctly
Fix crawl errors (404, 5xx, redirect loops)
Orphan pages identified and linked
Pagination handled properly
