Which strategy to choose?

I started a new blog on a new domain a couple of months ago. I published about 12 articles (2000-4000 words). And now I am trying to decide which way to go:

1) Put all the time and money in building backlinks for now while the website is in the sandbox
OR
2) Keep publishing more content before building links

I can't do both cuz I don't have much time and the budget is not that big to spend on both things at the same time.

What do you guys think is the best? How crucial it is to publish new content to a website these days to rank in google?

If you had to favor one, keep publishing more content before links. Your website can grow with content and no links to start. Focus on long-tail keywords.

If it's months ago, you should already begin link building
What i do is: in the morning i publish content to my site as it takes a bit of time and at night i build backlinks as it took me 2 hours spying on competitor's links and try to build the same:)
 
Link building is truly important if you want trafic I think even if your content in not big enough you should have trafic to see if people enjoy it

You try 2nd option keep publishing more content before build links because the content helping to grow your website or please put high volume keywords in the blog.
 
I think you should focus on content promotion, why put articles on your site if no one is reading them? Publish 1 article / week and promote that article everywhere. You'll get traffic, links and maybe even sales.
 
Focus on quality content and slowly build a backlink.
 
Focus content for now, but if you sant fasrwe result make backlink

I like to try and take the approach of aiming to get one article done and a couple backlinks (ideally from forums answering questions related to the article I just posted) per week. If you can do multiples of that in a week then that's better but I try not to focus too heavily on one or the other.

The idea was to keep these 12 articles that I have now and focus on building backlinks with guest posts. Once I get 20-30 high quality backlinks to my domain, I'd get back to writing more content.

you should upload content and do link building naturally and don't do too much for 2 to 3 months so your website has the time to get old a bit.
 
Use long tail keywords in your articles and link building can help a lot in ranking your site so make sure to do it after your domain is somewhat old
 
Focus on publishing quality and valuable content and then gradually build quality links. Keep the site active, this will help to increase traffic and stay time of user.

I'm in a pretty competitive niche all the money long tail keywords have a couple of DR5+ sites in top10 results, and the rest are higher than that. That's why I am thinking about link building before content, cuz the content alone won't cut it through to the top 10.
 
Content quality is important that readers will enjoy and spend more time with. Start building links you will get traffic from those websites.
