Which Social Network Template Would You Recommend?

I am after starting a social network in my niche. I don't want to use Ning, not because I dislike it, but because there are already a few Ning sites in my niche. Is there something better than this, more functions etc. preferably with a one off fee rather than monthly fees? Thanks in advance.

the best thing would be to use dolphin script with a good domain.

Also, you are not looking for a template, you are looking for a platform.

We have checked out Buddypress 'plateform' ; ) It does seem pretty good, but the only problem we are having is that we can't find a way of having just one login for several different features. Any suggestions?
