I've experimented with Instagram and looking to expand my knowledge to others, but I question what ones are worth it.

Instagram: Simple, has hashtags and easy to find new stuff. Method: Follow/unfollow, likes, comment
Twitter: I assume it is like Instagram and has hashtags that makes it easier to find new people? Method: Follow/unfollow???
Facebook: Not sure about this source, it seems hard to meet new people Method to grow: UNfriend/friend???
Tumblr: Also not sure what benefits from this source, as it is blog based.
    Pinterest: Totally new to me

Currently in college for econ, but wanting to specialize in social marketing. So curious on a business standpoint how these sites work to help grow and what benefit each one has.

Every Social Media is good, All you need to do is Try them once and see which suits you best and which site can bring good traffic to your site acc. To your niche.
For eg: you cannot promote ur adult niche on FB, You have to use tumblr or twitter for that.
    :)

Yes definitely if it is a viral product/service it would benefit from social calls if not... there no need to utilise social networks.
