Content +EEAT will always be the first
Everyone knows that's more long term than backlinks

Relevant, high quality content and EEAT.

Google looks at everything together, but content and user trust feel strongest now. Backlinks still help, but quality and real value matter more than big numbers.

Currently, Google places the highest priority on content quality and EEAT (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness), while backlinks still matter but are slightly less central.

What I have learned is that content which fulfils user intent, followed by relevance, and then backed by credible backlinks.

OR if you are searching for BH option, proper click bots (well set up, not cheap ones) combined with even medium quality backlinks

Right now it's heavily content-dependent on the query type. For YMYL (health, finance, legal) topics, EEAT is absolutely crushing everything else - sites without clear author credentials and proper expertise signals are getting buried regardless of their backlink profile. For commercial/transactional queries, fresh content quality seems to be winning over traditional backlink authority, which explains why new domains with decent content are outranking established sites.

Backlinks still matter but more for discovering content and initial trust rather than direct ranking power - Google seems to be prioritizing user engagement signals and content relevance over pure link authority. The biggest shift is that they're treating these signals dynamically based on search intent rather than applying a universal weighting across all queries.

Google prioritizes helpful content first, with EEAT validating trust and backlinks reinforcing authority, not replacing quality.

From my observation, content is still the most important factor, as it directly influences whether users stay on your site or not. Backlinks are still necessary when competing in a competitive niche, especially to outperform rivals, but if the content isn't good, it's difficult to retain them

Google prioritizes content that clearly satisfies search intent, then evaluates EEAT signals to ensure trust and credibility, especially in sensitive niches. Backlinks still matter, but primarily as a means to boost authority once strong content and trust are already established.

Helpful, intent matched content comes first, EEAT supports trust, and quality backlinks validate authority. Strong results come when all three reinforce each other.

Remember that not all backlinks are created equal. They may come from junk sites, or they may be articles with specific phrases and high ratings. In my opinion, the most important thing right now is content, followed by high-quality backlinks and finally history of your domain.
