Like, for example, say you want to use Ahrefs but Ahrefs account costs $99 / month but if you pay this money to Ahrefs directly you are the ONLY person that can use that account.
Well, with group buy you and everyone else who joins the group buy will use that account but each one of you pays $5 (just an example, it could be $10 or more) instead of $99, which makes it a very cost-effective way of accessing high quality tools.
Of course, as you can imagine, this is on the shady / black hat side of things and the person who sells you access to their Ahrefs account risks getting kicked out by Ahrefs (or any other tool they share the account with) at any moment. I think some tools do allow multiple users per account, but not all of them...
But anyway, the point is that group buy = cheap access to premium software but the downside (for some people at least) is that all of the research (keywords, competition analysis, etc) you do is available for everyone to see and steal since everyone's using the same account
Anyway, with Ahrefs, Semrush and other tools being offered for cheap in marketplace nowadays I don't think that group buys are a viable option anymore. I even think that it's not allowed to discuss group buys on the forum anymore (although I'm not sure about this). These things worked very well when they were not jumped on by everyone on the planet 6-7 years ago, but nowadays all of the 3rd world countries and poor SEOs that want access to premium software use them, which lowers the quality and speed for everyone involved to the point that they become unusable most of the time.
Instead of paying $5 for access to Semrush, for example, and share your research with 100 other people you're better off buying Semrush account from the marketplace for $10 (or however much it costs, I haven't checked in a while) and you use the account alone for cheaper than if you joined Semrush directly...
