Haven't used WP smush but WP rocket is a good choice. I don't know your case but my site was broken due to enabling compression that is not supported in HTTP2 version, so it breaks the site. You can easily get back your previous unbroken site by disabling combine feature.
If you are currently using WP Rocket plug in then I would like to suggest you go for Imagify plug in for image optimization. Both plug-ins are made by the same company. In fact WP Rocket recommends Imagify. Imagify can also create a Serve WebP image with a compressed image.

The size mostly.
original image - 1mb
optimized image 800kb
Eventually i dumpled shortpixel too and i use the image optimizer on litespeed cache plugin.

what’s the result?
I tried shortpixel and it consumes too much credits when you are building a website. It’s best to use it locally after finishing.
What I am going to test later is Shortpixel for CDN and Imagify for local.
