Ahref seems to have a better updated data. It's worthy of note that it's cost intensive. Semrush on the other hand you can get in the bhw for 95% off the original pricing.
I have used both extensively, and here is my input.
PROS of SEMRUSH OVER AHREFS:
It has a "Keyword Intent" feature/column not present in AHREFs. (Showcasing each keyword's intent; i.e.: Informational, Commercial, Transactional, etc..) You can easily filter down your list based on the desired keyword intent.
SEMRUSH has the upper hand if you want to do keyword research for PPC, thanks to its 'Advertising Research' tool.
PROS OF AHREFS OVER SEMRUSH:
Provides keyword research for Google, Bing, YouTube, Amazon, and six other SEs. (SEMRush, on the other hand, only has Google)
Shows the number of potential organic clicks.
It gives a traffic potential figure if you rank #1 for that specific keyword.
AHREF's Content gap tool is better than SEMRUSH's since you can compare against ten competitors vs. 4 in SEMRush.
If your primary interest in keyword research is for Adwords PPC, SEMRush would be the better option IMO.
Anything else ---> Definitely go for AHREFS
My go-to keyword research tool is AHREFS since I run an SEO agency with a primary focus on 'Organic,' and AHREFS goes above and beyond what I need from it.
