Which makes more sense? growing-trees.com or growingtrees.net?

I have the choice of hyphenating my domain name or just using the .net without having to hyphenate. Which makes more sense for SEO?

I suppose that I could just buy both and have one forward but I would still have to decide which to make the actual site. The all one word .com is a "premium" domain and godaddy wants like 3 grand for it.

buy the .com domain and then advertise to sell for 1.5k? half the price of the .net...easy 1.5k
 
growing-trees.com and growingtrees.net are the same price. It's growingtrees.com that is 3 grand.

I am just trying to figure out if the hyphenated one or the .net helps me more in serps
 
I dont think it really matters.
Differences schould be close to none.
 
Generally, people prefer the non-hyphenated domain name as it is easier to remember for direct traffic. The hyphenated domain name, while not proved with evidence, is generally considered to be a spammy type of URL that you would ideally not want.
 
I asked a similar question recently when considering a new domain purchase. The majority of responses favoured the non hypenenated domain, or a domain with a sensible suffix or prefix e.g. growingtressright.com
 
Domains with hyphens in them will look a little more suspicious than non-hyphenated domains.
 
It depends on the type of traffic you want.

If the website really only relies on search engine traffic then I'd go with either domain.

However, if you plan on making this a website that has traffic from all different types of sources, especially direct traffic, I'd go with the .net domain.
The reason why I would not go with the .com in this case is because when a user says it out loud it is, "growing dash trees dot com" rather than the more simple "growing trees dot net".

Well according to me, it does not really matters with .net or .com, everything matters on your work. Nowadays .net, .com .org these are some good domains and are worth purchasing.

And yeah.... Growing Trees is what matters.... .com and .net come after that. ;)
 
Go for .net and use the 3k to get higher SERP than the .com lol
 
I would choose the .net

For the sake ofSEO, they should both be very similar.

For branding/return visitors, I find that .net is easier to remember then a dash
 
go for growingtrees.net without any further thinking. It has nothing to do with ranking. Even growing-trees.com would require the same amount of work. But considering that both the site are at the same position, the the CTR of the non hyphenated domain will be more that the one with hyphen.

Just an opinion :)
 
Definitely go with the .net non hyphenated version since it is available. Domains with hyphens are always considered a bit spammy, which is something you don't want if you are trying to establish a brand.
