You're right, GSC is the best for your own site, and free tools for competitor analysis are always limited.

But I've had a lot of success by combining a few of them. My free "competitor analysis kit" is usually Ahrefs' Free Backlink Checker to see their top links, Ubersuggest for their keywords, and Screaming Frog to analyze the on-page structure of their key pages. Together, they paint a pretty clear picture.

You can group buy them ofc queries will be limited but you can get them in cheap
 
If looking for free alternatives then, use chrome extension or GSC otherwise ahref and semrush is best depending on the usage
 
For keyword research, I still find Google Keyword Planner surprisingly reliable if you combine it with Google Trends

Do not use a free seo tools. If you are serious about your website and it's seo, always use a paid tool like Ahrefs.
 
The best free SEO tool is Google Serch Console, as it provides direct performance data insights from Google itself.

Google Keyword Planner is great for keyword research. Ubersuggest offers good keyword ideas and backlink data with a limited free tier. For site optimization, tools like Google Search Console and Screaming Frog’s free crawl (up to 500 URLs) work well.
 
Google Keyword Planner: Although designed for paid advertising (Google Ads), this is still the most authoritative, accurate source of keyword data from Google.
 
I would suggest that you master the Google Search Console. Because every affected problem will appear there, you will also see the solution.
