Which is more effective between Facebook boost and ad

Hi.

I am not good when it comes to Facebook ad or boost. I would love to start now.
Though I have been reading online about it but insights by gurus in the house will be highly appreciated.

I create video explainer and whiteboard for clients via freelance sites. I basically get this done via upwork where I am already a Top Rated Seller with great reviews and ratings. However upwork is becoming extremely competitive with slow sales. I would like to sell directly to clients at a higher price via Facebook ad. I already created a page for this.
So my question is which is more effective between fb post boost and ad? Also any tips to make any of the above methods more effective? The page I created for this is still new with just less than 10 likes. I got those likes when I did a Facebook post boost for less than $5 but there was no sales.

Let's see your website / web page.

You probably want to boost or do Page Post Engagement just to get some likes (100+ is enough) for social proof.

Then run a ad campaign where the objective is to get conversions for purchases.

You might want to consider doing a funnel, giving away something for really cheap (sometimes called trip wire or loss leader) - then up-selling people with your more premium service.

I think your if page wants to attract a large "like" , it must have good content. At the same time, you still run ads to attract fans

I just started playing a little bit with FB ads myself, so can't give you any guru advice. However, you'll have to test and see what works best for you. I think it's going to cost more than the $5 to get enough data to find a formula that converts. Have you tried videos or just images and posts? Maybe videos might work better for you.
