Heres the scenario;

Doing some work with a new local start-up, very little/no competition on keywords with few results and few searches each month (i.e. easy to take #1 spot).

Only query is; i've used wordpress, can easily do alot of SEO with it and i get pretty good results, but i've never touched joomla. How search-engine-friendly is it?

The main problem being the clients site will be static and will only ever have fresh content 3-4 times per year, so i didn't think WordPress was the best bet ...

Anyone got any thoughts?

there is tons of plugins for both of it, always depends on what you're up to.

autoblog - wp
community or more extended content - j!

usually people want blogs / easily updatable sites so i use WP. this is literally a 5-page, static site with a nice logo and some info & a contact page.

I'll have a play around with joomla later and see if i get something i like out of it!

Thanks!

Joomla! does have its own set of issues with duplicate content issues arising out of its architecture and unless you are aware of how to know what u need to know , i would seriously recommend going the WP route.

Since you dont want to update the site very regularly with content , you could try Joomla ! but do remember to remove all the additional links it generates on the sides.
Also install sh404sef and configure it out to get some decent results.
