Which is better, Blogger or Wordpress?

I vote for Wordpress, too.

for me - wordpress is more flexible

alwyas go for the open source one... i think wordpress is much better but blogger is good for newcomers too.

best wordpress selfhosted ... the couple bucks for a basic host is definatly worth it even if you have to go out and pick sodacans for a week (thats how i paid for my first webhosting many years ago)

else blogger is a big^G company the ^G SE knows about every page instantly instantly ...

I find wordpress much more powerful. With the plugins, widgets, and themes that are available it is hard to beat. And the price is right.

i m using wp. so that's better (for me)

Wordpress because you can be flexible.. Wordpress is SEO friendly there are many useful plugins you can use and you can host on your own.

blogspot is good

After Panda update, it is advised to use Blogger.

I think Blogger is the best because its easy to use

What I will add is that if customization compels you as it does me then WP is your best bet. Not to mention if ever you wanted to switch gears and scale up you blog presence you'd at some point have to relocate your blog anyway so why not just start off on the right foot. #ImJustSayin

Is easy to make money with them because you have a large variety of plugins that will help you a lot in SEO !

I think the OP was actually wondering about having a free blog hosted at wordpress.com vs blogger.com.

Most of the replies in this thread are more about how much better a self-hosted blog is. Installing WP on your own domain and hosting account is definitely much better than a free blog on wordpress.com or on blogger.com but still doesn't really answer the OP's question.

I think that for a free blog blogger.com has a lot of advantages as far as getting indexed is concerned because it's a google product. But it's also a lot more likely that if you're using it for anything google feels is manipulating the serps then it's also much more likely to get deleted. A free blog on wordpress.com will probably require more SEO to get a good ranking in the serps, but is also less likely to get deleted than one on blogger.com.

In both cases though wordpress.com and blogger.com you are leaving control over the existence of your blog in the hands of another company. You get to write the blog and even customize it to some extent, but in both cases the company actually owns the blog and can delete it whenever they want. Your blog on either platform isn't really much more than a profile account as far as they are concerned.

If you self host your blog, then even if you have a problem with your hosting account all you have to do is move your domain to another host. You own the blog and have complete control over it's existence. For that reason I agree with the other posters that a self hosted Wordpress blog is a better choice than either wordpress.com or blogger.com.

If money is an issue then you can still set a self hosted blog up for free. Just google for free hosting accounts and you'll find many that have a large enough free level hosting account that you can install wordpress there. That way the only thing you need to buy is your domain name.

(1) Assuming you can afford your own hosting and domain, then Wordpress.org (The self-hosted option) is the one to go for as it will offer the greatest flexibility and infinite room for expansion.

(2) If you can't afford to go 'self-hosted', then I would probably choose Blogger for it's Google-friendliness... However, this would be WAY down my list after a 'paid' Wordpress site. Only go 'free' if you absolutely have to.

(3) As a last resort, I'd go for Wordpress.com (the free, hosted version). But be aware that you'll probably find it frustrating when you want to expand.
