Hi Guys,

All the searching I've done on this forum but didn't find the answer to my question.

I am looking for a good VPS I can access from China.
I want to host my websites, as well as run my SEO software (Ubot, Scrapebox, Ultimate Demon...etc...all the usual suspects) and use it as a proxy server.

So far, my main market for my websites are in USA.

Accessing Facebook, Youtube etc from China is challenging as we have to use SHH tunnels or use commercial VPN's.

So, with having all this info....my question.....Where would you recommend to host my VPS?

Some suggested Hong Kong or Korea, what about Europe or USA?

Thanks for everyone's time and opinions...This forum is an UNBELIEVABLE help to me in my IM biz!!

I was thinking...If I get it in Hong Kong, the access speeds should be faster for me...BUT...what about peeps accessing my sites from USA, would that slow things down too much or would the access speed still be ok for my visitors considering it is a VPS?

Thanks
Wylie

Actually Korea has the fastest internet connection in the world, Litchuania is in the socond place. So Korea would be great choise in my oppinion :)

Anyone with any suggestions?...Looks like many USA servers are cheaper than ones I can find in the far east....
I was told be knowledgeable peeps here in China that European servers are slow to access from China.

Look up Webhostingtalk Singapore forum. Lot's of goodies there, but pricing is rather upscale.

Europe and USA have the smallest prices. Asia has some huge prices and small bandwidths

You have a few options here.

First off running SEO tools and hosting your sites on the same VPS/Server is a big no no. SEO tools tend to use a lot of CPU/Memory so while the server might be under full load, your site will load very slowly for your visitors which isn't good.

In terms of location, you can host somewhere close like Singapore, Hong Kong or Tokyo. Singapore and Tokyo have very expensive bandwidth, not ideal for running SEO tools and it's not going to be very fast for US visitors.

My choice would be to get a server on the US West Coast.

DigitalOcean have a really nice network to Asia/Australasia at their San Francisco location. http://digitalocean.com/ Linux only, so it's good for using as a web server/proxy server. Use this script to set it up: https://github.com/Xeoncross/lowendscript

For a VPS to run SEO tools you have a few options. I would prefer to run it on a dedicated as it will be probably end up being cheaper then getting a VPS when you start getting over 2gb ram.

You have a few options:

https://www.versaweb.com/clearance-servers.php - VersaWeb, Las Vegas
http://www.perfectip.net/specials.php - Perfect IP, Los Angeles
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1311819 - DataShack, Kansas City

Then if you look at VPS's
http://burst.net/winvps.php - Los Angeles (cheap VPS, not really known for quality)
http://buyvm.net/ - Las Vegas, Only have server 2003

Let me know if you need any more help.

i would like to suggest either korea or singapore, they ussualy have good worldwide connection

Thanks for the tip everyone....

Matsta, I have a few questions......

1. About running the SEO tools, I would probably not be running anything too heavy for the first year or so, (unless I stumble across something really "kicked-up), so using Ubot, Scrapebox, UD and a few other programs on a limited scale to begin with.
Having said all that, would it be OK to have these on the same server as my hosted sites?
2. I am familiar with cPanel and now Wordpress for working on my hosted sites. If I change to a Windows based VPS, would I use Wordpress the same as I have been doing, and would the "cPanel" type interface work on Windows the same as actual cPanel?
3. I am not familiar with Linux, so this is why I would be looking at a Windows based server. Can I run the SEO tools and other Windows bases programs from a Linux server? If yes, would this be better in the longer term if I start to learn some Linux commands?

I KNOW these are ridiculously NOOB questions, but THANKS for your time and advice!!

A couple more questions came up......

Can I use a Windows based VPS as a proxy server? As I am currently inside of the GFW in China (Great FireWall), I need to use an outside proxy server (or VPN) to access blocked sites such as Facebook, Youtube...etc.
Can I use a Windows based VPS to make and use my own proxies? (such as buying more IP's and using them as proxies (for scrapebox..etc.)

One of the companies that Matsta recommended sells additional Ip's for ...

IP Address Block (/28)
FREE
$5.00
(10 USEABLE IPS)

Class C IP Block (/24)
FREE
$100.00
(250 USEABLE IPS)

Would these work for a Windows based VPS, and if yes, are both above additional IP options good for this?

Thanks

UD and Scrapebox can easily use more than 2gb of ram and probably 100% of your allocated CPU cores. Even a big uBot could use some serious power. I honestly would not mix them.

Using Windows as a web server is a giant pain in the ass. Not only does it use twice the memory a linux equivalent server uses, there isn't really much of a control panel and just in general the IIS server sucks all around.

You can honestly learn the basics of Linux and setup a Wordpress blog in the time it just takes to install Wordpress on a Windows server. Last time it took nearly a hour to install on a Dedicated.

If you use this guide as I've mentioned: https://github.com/Xeoncross/lowendscript

It's literally copy and paste and you can setup wordpress sites with 1 command and also setup a proxy server with 1 command.

You can but it's a lot of work setting up multiple proxies on 1 machine. It's much better if you pay a freelancer to set it up for you. Would be much easier to use Linux over Windows.

Thanks for such a quick reply :)

WHat is involved with a Linux server to run SEO tools and other Windows based software?
Is there an interface similar to cPanel, or other ways to get a user friendly UI similar to Windows or cPanel?
After installed the said Wordpress sites, can I see the interface similar to cPanel?

Oviously, I am quite familiar with Windows and cPanel LOL

Honestly, I kinda thought Linux was the better way to go...I'm not afraid to learn some commands, in fact, I've been using an Amazon EC2 instance for the past 10 months to access a server I setup in Japan to SHH under/over the China Great Firewall, so it won't be a complete strange new land for me learning some Linux. I just feel more comfortable with an actual UI as opposed to just text.

THANKS AGAIN

Wylie

If you want to run SEO software on linux, you'll have to virtualise Windows. However you'll need a Dedicated Server for that, a VPS won't work.

You can use Webmin or a free control panel like ISPConfig, Kloxo or zPanel, however they need a bit of work to get them setup initially. I would recommend ISPConfig as the easiest to use CP, but it also requires the most setup.

You can get a Cheap Dedicated server and setup Vmware Esxi which allows you virtualise Windows/Linux and has a windows app which you use to manage it.

So I'd either go with 2 VPS's or 1 Dedicated Server, both options would be around $50/month combined.

Before I explain, I own dedicated servers and a hosting company. I'm also very knowledgeable of networking. Take a look at the following image. It's a pretty good map of the global fiber/network connections between the countries.

If your target audience is in the US, then put the server in the central US. Where depends. If targeting only the US pick TX or Chicago, both are good locations for all of NA. My market is split between the US, and the UK, so I put my server in Chicago. Chicago is a great pathway to the US and CA, but it's very close to NY (Essentially one or two hops), and NY has one of the best connections to the UK. This way I get excellent latency and bandwidth to the UK and North America.

If your primary target is the US, but you also get decent traffic from China and Japan, then host it in California. When you look at the map you'll see what I'm talking about.

Either way, if your customers are geographically diverse, adding a CDN from Amazon CloudFront would probably be a good idea if you're hosting web content.

More images here: https://www.google.com/search?q=wor...Oo9gTZuYCQAw&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1536&bih=727

As for SEO tools, I believe most US web content is hosted in the US anyway, so if you're scraping American sites those sites will be located in the US or UK. Having your SEO tools in China would be a bad idea in this instance.

Furthermore, try to separate your services. One VPS for SEO tools, one account for Linux Hosting, and a VPN service from an actual VPN provider. Just my $0.02...

Hold on, you want to :
1) Host web sites
2) Run SEO Tools
3) Use it as a proxy server
And all that on single VPS ?
First of all, cheap vps can't handle all that, hosting company will suspend it due to high cpu usage, secondly if you will run seo tools without 3rd party proxies your proxy server on the VPS will be useless as IP will get blacklisted ( plus hosting company could also suspend vps because of that ) and the web sites will be slow as hell.

Take a look on webhostingtalk forum on VPS offers sections, you can find plenty of offers there from all around the world.

For VPS best location is USA IMHO... Hostgator is my recommendation for this... I am using Hostgator VPS for last 4 years...
