Magento is free...

I think opencart is the best e-commerce. its easy to understand and user friendly also. you can try it.

I am working with Magento since last one year. I would say its one of the best eCommerce platform. It's built upon Zend Framework. It has good admin panel available to manage your stores, products,customers, orders. Number of extensions are available to add additional functionalities. Large developer community is available if you face any issues. Its easy to use for unexperienced person .Various additions are available for Magento from community edition to professional edition. Recently they launched Magento mobile also.
