which ecommerce do you use?

I'm about to help my friend set up a site to sell shirts on. i was gonna go with WP ecommerce plugin but someone over at template P2P said to go with OScommerce. always leery of using a new platform however easy it may be.
what do you guys use to stay SEO friendly? what do you recommend?

Have you check out magentocommerce.com? for magento templates, you can checkout themeforest.net...

I use Magento for my shop and client work, I would use a theme unless you have strong css / cms development skills.

The backend of Magento is just amazing, you can manage stock, taxes, track sales etc... And it is free ! (at least for the unsupported version)

There's also cscart. I'm using it myself at the moment. Supports SEO friendly URLs, individual keywords per product, etc. Have a look.

i'd like something popular like magento i think so i can find a ripped theme for my friend, he doesn't have much money and the presser for the shirts costs a few hundred ;]

I've used open cart its really easy also use zencart ......but then i got hacked

Why not try a Cafepress store. You upload design and drive traffic. They print and send you commission. It used to be free and I think it still is. It is a good way to start to see if the shirts sell enough to justify a real cart and puts money in your pocket to do it right.

yea thats another thing, security. i know WP is pretty good, i would think with ecommerce too as far as that goes

the prices are way too high to make a decent profit. you have to resell their stuff and mark it up. so if they charge 18 for a blank tee to make 5 you have to sell it for 23 =/ or else i would. thanks though

I prefer magento, it is more professional and has good SEO out of the box. But it is more server intensive.

Zencart is also good. It is easier to use and modify the layout.

I use both, but I am more happy with my magento store.

dont start with magento for such a basic low cost store. magento is great for 'real' ecommerce but not for smaller shops

Magento is great for seo (all the products url can be made browser friendly).

If you are only selling one or a few products you might not even have to put a webshop together, a few paypal buttons will do. However if you are planning on scaling up your business at some point, using Magento from the very start will be beneficial.

If you are familiar with wordpress, you can use eshop, and then you don't have to learn something new. You can get themes for eshop, too.

OSCommerce is older but easy to use...Magento is newer, more powerful, but not so easy to configure.
