Lets say there is a #1 site in a niche and has lots of traffic. But it doesn't have search keywords in it.

Now I buy a domain with the search keywords in the url. Will the old site appear at #1 or my site with search keywords in it appear first? Of course i'll do a lot of SEO for it.

Lol, if you do lots of SEO it might become #1 or not, no one can answer your question with 100% accuracy :D

I think most here will agree it's a combination of both onsite-SEO (which includes the exact match domain)....and backlink strength.

mine is ranked 2 without any domain lolz

You never know with Big G. I was working on a client's site recently, did some top notch on-page SEO and still couldn't outrank this competitor with a fucking flash site and 0 SEO lol

I think the age of the old site is a factor.

The big traffic site can rank easier if you make right On-site SEO,and strong linkbuilding, also make sure to add the keyword in the URL of the page.

Yeah, thats the one thing that bothers me. The competitor site has been around for 4-5 years and is a PR4 site. I think i'll land up at number 2 spot even with good seo, since the competitor site is old and highly active.
