Which do you prefer and why?

1. Building a site from the ground up and investing much time and effort to generate revenue.
2. Buying a site someone started and then focus on SEO in order to generate revenue.
3. Building a site drive traffic to it and hope to get revenue then sell it.

I've been in and out of the game for a while and had most (if not all of my success when I was way younger). I am trying to get a feel for where the market is going especially when one considers apps and mobile friendly websites.
