Which Dedicated Server is better?

Howdy!

I want to get a dedicated server to run all my seo tools (sb, wiki bomber, sbbomber, bmd, ud, etc), which server is better?

Quad Dual-Core AMD Opteron 8220
2.8Ghz - 4 Processors
8 Physical Cores
32GB DDR2 ECC

#2
Dual Intel Xeon 5420
2.5Ghz - 2 processors
8 Cores / 8 Threads
8GB DDR2

#3
Intel Core i5 2400
3.1Ghz / 3.4Ghz Turbo
4 Cores / 4 Threads
8GB DDR3

I usually run few tools at the same time. help me decide which one is the best

#1 and #2 are good but I personally would take #2 and add extra RAM.

I'm sure you could Google search the processors and see which performs better!
I'm always wondering the same myself, its hard to know exactly without testing.

I personally don't like AMD but i would go for the #1 solution, the reason is very simple - quad core cpu and 32 gb of ram, with 4 cpu cores and that much ram you can easy run multiple SEO tools and still have really fast machine. If the price is reasonable and you have a lot of bandwidth and at last 100mbps connect go for it.

Are they over $250? If yes bad deal anyway. I got a dedicated server which never disappoints me.. 32GIG, Xeon5420,15k RPM SAS HD...

This config probably beats everyone you listed.. But if they are below $250 not bad..

Take the 3rd one out of comparison because it's less powerful than the others. I would recommend #2 because the Xeons are made for heavy duty work.

THe price is very reasonable, and cheap. 1Gbit Port. 20TB bw.

is the software built to use multi core processors? If not then it really doesnt matter. Just get a lot of RAM.

I want to run 4 UD Instances. not sure if UD uses multi core processors, but it is a bit heavy tool. 60 threads/instance.

If its not developed to use multi core I suggest you split your server into containers and dedicate each container to 1 program.

5 programs total = 5 containers.

dedicate proper cpu and ram to each container.

I didn't use the AMD's except a desktop in 2000 or so but using the xeons as servers since 2007 and the last 2 I used were the 5620 and lately the E5-2630 and they are monsters.

For this kind of software RAM matters the most in my opinion. You wan't utilize all the cpu power before the bandwidth is saturated or the ram full (unless you run a very crappy software).

I Taken out the #1 and #3, and my choice is for the xeon.

Dual Intel Xeon 5420
2.5Ghz - 2 processors
8 Cores / 8 Threads
16GB DDR2

or

Xeon E3-1230v2
3.2GHz / 3.6GHz Turbo
4 Cores / 8 Threads
16GB 16GB DDR3

anyone using both of them?
